Wow. I’ve been having the nicest time settling into our new house. How are you?!
I have been quite busy with work, so the settling has been sporadic, but even sporadic is ace because a change is as good as a holiday and it FEELS like a holiday house here.
The weather is so gorgeous today – sunny and warmish as Spring begins to blossom. I’m really not used to having a garden, so I’ve been darting in and out of it (or staring through our big front windows at the fresh shoots and merry birds.)
Everyone at our place is happy and tired. Something about the newness is completely exhausting. I think we’re growing new synapses or something?! There must be a science-y explanation for it.
Yesterday I sorted all our cookbooks into genre/author. I have always wanted to do that, but at our old place we were in a bit of a make-do mess. Our new place is spacious with lots of storage, so it’s much easier to work out what goes where. Like the Nigellas. They go next to the Bills. In case you didn’t know. And the Stephanies go next to the Maggies. FYI.
I’m slowly unpacking my craft room, but I am at a bit of a standstill as I need some storage: bookshelves and somewhere to store paperwork and maybe a sofa bed for when the kids stay over?
Also, we’ve been baking. Since we moved we’ve made 2 loaves of bread, a lemon cake, some brownies, some raspberry muffins, a lemon slice and a sticky date pudding. At our OLD house we had a pizza oven that was outside. No inside oven at all due to our place being an old shop and not really giving a toss about conventional kitchen ideals. Our new house has an inside oven. With a fan! And a light! Oh my gosh!
This weekend we don’t have ANY PLANS for the first time in SO long. I am excited to see what it feels like to mooch about at our place, especially when the weather is meant to be super great.
Maybe I can tell you about a couple of things?
On Tuesday I am speaking at Craft And Design As A Career here in Melbourne.
A really ace lady, author + cute-face Kate Forster, reviewed my book.

Love your house pics! Alas, no mooching for me until the end of the coming week, as my final uni assignment goes out Thursday. So I’m digging in to get it finished, then I can have my evenings and weekends back, yay.
Pip
I can’t believe how ‘in’ you are at your new abode.
How?!?!?!?

I still have boxes unpacked from my move seven YEARS ago !!!
I can smell those fresias from China, Pip. Gosh I love fresias. Thanks for the newsy post! Glad you’re happy and mooching about in your new place. I’ve been blogging, getting back into Chinese study, bowling, making your lemon slice, taking photos and reading a great new book. Getting excited to move back to Melbourne soon, too. But scared. Excited and scared. x
Pip, is that the prettiest rubbish bin in the world at the end of your bench?? Your new home is beautiful.
Ooh, happy moving and settling. The new place looks rather marvellous. And what a joy to be baking in your own kitchen at last!! Enjoy your no plans weekend – living for one of those! 🙂 x
I’m loving the pics of your house, Pip! It looks so bright and airy. I’ve been baking your tangy lemon slice. It was yummy! I’ve been crocheting and blogging. Tomorrow I think I’ll be in the garden – the weeds are gettin WAY too big!
Sounds lovely Pip! Storage, space and an organised bookshelf- sometimes its the simplest things that are just so sweet! Good to hear your news xx
thanks for sharing your home looks lovely, and that book case… swoon.
Hope you have the loveliest lazy home-body weekend ever!
i love how excited you are for the things like inside ovens & chirpy birds.
I too keep my cookbooks in author groups. Nigella is next to Bill who is next to Jamie. Donna sits next to Ree who sits by Katie. It makes me happy.
Enjoy your mooching. I am frantically trying to finish my blanket to give as a birthday gift but keep getting distracted. I’m terribly like that x
Mooching around is the best! Love it! Bit of cooking and pottering around with Indian music in the background is my idea of a perfect day off. Last week I made a heap of fabulous avocado dressings and suchlike and wholesome slices for the week. The Pony made banana muffins with an odd choc chip for the boys. They have been popular and used up old bananas … Virtuous ++
And you get time to put new water in the flower vases so they sparkle. Sparkly vases are so nice!
And you can watch ted talks and suchlike and tell stories about all kinds of things that randomly come up. AND… Because you decide it’s a lazy day you actually get heaps done which is really weird right!!! And then you go to bed full of wholesome goodies knowing you have a fridge full of shiz and life is just ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Have the best weekend Pipster 🙂
