:: A Year Of Good Things : 18/366

January 18, 2012

We needed a freezer.  I am catering Rin’s wedding, omg, and we needed a freezer to open up the menu options a bit.  We also need a freezer for the exorbitant amount of iced treats that we have at our house. And we need a freezer for ICE… We are ice hounds. We love ice. We have the usual fridge-freezer, but we wanted to maximise our shopping/cooking/fancy-drink-making so we have been coveting a dedicated freezer.  A bit of detective work uncovered this one today.  We bought it on Gumtree and it was $100 from a lady with a baby in Alphington.  And now it’s the keeper of all things good.  Zooper Doopers. Sunny Boys.  Peas.

Phew. So we’re organised for the icy treats and organised for the wedding.  Although now I think the menu has changed from Mexican to Spanish/Italian.  So we might not need the freezer for the wedding prep after all.

I feel compelled to begin making large amounts of sorbet.

Do you like sorbet?  Have you ever made it.

xx Pip

Last year i felt all grown up when we bought one of those fancy schmancy side by side fridge freezers with an ice maker built in!
    Best thing EVER!
    On tap ice!
I am still excited by it EVERY SINGLE TIME!

We bought a chest freezer years ago, with the specific purpose of freezing breast milk! (premmie baby, too much milk). Has come in handy for other food groups also.

I saw Jackie French make some on telly recently. She used 1 pineapple – blitzed in the blender with 1/2 cup of lemon cordial. She froze it in a tray and then scraped it with a fork. Apparently it's divine. I must try it – pineapples are great at the moment.

Eeek! I live in QLD and don't have a chest freezer! Its absurd I know, like living in VIC without a heater! I am looking into it though. As for sorbet – I have never made it but would love huge amounts of it!

Oh yes, I love sorbet! yummo!
Last year, I made peach sorbet from our homegrown peaches. I have no mixxy thing so had to do all the stirring by hand, but it was soooo worth it.

Shall be making peach sorbet again in a few weeks when our peaches ripen. We have a massive crop growing this year, from just two trees!

sorbet is a bit like gelati, which is definitely italian and therefore probably needed in copious amounts for the wedding (and associated wedding prep…)

Sunnyboys & Zooper Doopers! BEST freezer contents EVER!

I want a freezer so bad! but nowhere to put it ๐Ÿ™ i've got the fridge/freezer combo and I have to keep sacrificing my icecube trays ( I also love ice) to fit in containers of soup or leftover lasagne!

LOVE a chest freezer. So great to have all that extra space for preserving stuff. But today the smallests made icy poles and I opened ours up and it was filled with buckets of yabbies. Yabbies!! I was not really happy about that. Needless to say I made space in the fridge freezer. xx
