Hello

:: A Year Of Good Things : 16/366

January 16, 2012

I am not one of those ladies who mooches about. I am a very hard worker. Today I was boinged back to reality and worked super hard core from 8am til 7pm.  It was notso bad. I got a heap of things done and felt a weight lift as I dealt with tasks I had not tackled due to this ‘holiday’ time of year.  I paid some bills. I wrote a lot of stuff. I finished my Frankie project, despite my limpy sewing machine and sent it off to Frankie HQ. I wrote a couple of things for JustB.  I’m particularly into this piece that I wrote today!  (You can view all my JustB pieces here!)
Also, I worked on my new-soon-to-be-revealed blog.  I ate two AWESOME sandwiches.  I basically caught up with stuff I needed to do, to keep things nice for my family.  I didn’t even watch ANY of Friday Night Lights. I took it OUT OF MY COMPUTER, just to avoid the urge!  Also, I shared some chips with my doggie. That’s Good, isn’t it?!  AND while I was at the post office, I bought a Delicious Magazine AND a Feast Magazine. That’s Good, too!
I really wanted to get out in the world and do something Good for someone who doesn’t live under my roof.  But instead I stayed in and did the things I need to do. And they were pretty great things, despite the Us-ness of them.  Do you have days like that? When you want to do new BIG GOOD things, but you need to deal with the familiar Good things first? I like the familiar things. My first loyalty is to them. When they are sorted I have the energy and excitement for the new. If I ignore the familiar, then I feel anxious and my brain works in Le Strange ways that aren’t conducive to good ideas.
Busy Day Toastie Of Awesome
Toast 2 slices of grainy bread
Spread warm toast with one chunk of Meredith Goats Cheese
Add some pesto and chili
Pile with a few slices of beetroot
Salt and pepper, if you please
Eat it up

How about YOU?  Do you need to take care of the familiar and the routine to set free the BIG GOOD NEW?!

xx Pip

Sounds like you had a very productive day and have bonded with your family nicely. The dog loved you more because of those shared chips.

I have just got on board with the year of good things, and I have to say, most of what I've been doing/will be doing is for those immediately around me. I definitely understand dealing with the familiar, that way I'll be free to do good things for a wider circle.

Friday Night Lights is up there with the best television ever made! I love every thing about that show. I envy people who are watching it for the first time. Glad you got all your work done and you can indulge. Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose!

    Gosh, I wish I did.
Unfortunately I am a do a bit of this and then a bit of that and then come back over to this again type of person. I am always doing stuff in funny orders and I often wonder if I would achieve more if I worked down a list. And that toastie sounds yum! x

I'm struggling so much to keep up the familiar and routine that I can't even see ANYTHING else on the horizon and I'm bored of trying to keep up with it. It sounds like you had a very productive day!

    You are so right Pip!

Last year I took on waaaaay too much & all of us did not cope well with that at all. I love being involved with our school, my kids sport & work but it took its toll. I was a grouch a lot of the time because I spread myself too thin.

This year I have decided to live a life less full. I am cutting back on commitments & commiting to myself & my family first. Its a bit hard because I am a people pleaser & as I said love being involved in stuff, but I dont want to be running around like a headless chook. So I shall be spending lots of time with my boys, with my hubby when he is home from his FIFO job & doing lots of nice, good stuff for us. I feel good about that 🙂

That is definitely me, I like to take care of the familiar things before the big good stuff!

Also I'd like to say THANKS PIP! This post has inspired me to get on and do some work I've been meaning to do for a while! Tomorrow will be a hard work day, I think.

You are, indeed, one of the hardest, cram-so-much-in-to-a-day people I have ever known. And taking a day to do stuff for you and your family, most definitely IS a good deed. X
