:: A Year Of Good Things : 13/366 : We’re Jammin’

January 13, 2012

How are you? Today we went to the market. With one teensy kilo of apricots we made 2 jars PLUS one little bowl of apricot jam!  Remember how we made the strawberry jam the other day?  Well we did it the very same way…

Chop the fruit into smallish pieces (one kilo, please!), add one cup of sugar.  Put the lot into a big, wide, heavy based pan.  Simmer over a medium heat for about ten minutes until the jam is set.  To test the jam, get a cold plate and pop a teaspoon on to it.  Tip the plate on an angle. It should NOT run. It should just move slowly/ooze.  Once it’s set, pour it into sterile jars (just pop clean jars in the oven for 10 or 15 mins and boil the lids : or put them in the oven too if they haven’t got rubber seals on them)  Pop the lids on the jars while the jam is still hot.  Voila! You have jammed!  Word.

I’m eating some snacks and drinking a nice drink and watching crap tv on le internetz.  I’m thinking about a long list of things I need to do tomorrow. Cam and Ari and Pilot Bean and Lucky are at the park.  Max is hanging with his friend.  What are YOU doing, petal?

xx Pip

    Hello Pip,

    I am very well thank you. The reason I am especially well is that I've changed my diet, eating healthier and exercising. So today I have worked a little and walked a few km's. I've been talking to local friends about a Garden Party fundraiser we're organising – the money raised will go towards installing a commercial kitchen at our Community Centre. We're also hosting lunch for a helicopter safari visit – so lots of menu's and high tea options have been discussed here lately! 🙂

    Today I went to a meeting of fellow crafty people and passed on my knowledge of online shop keeping. It was a good thing to so and involved cake and tea! I like making jam too. We make a quick microwave version – you can have jam made in about 10 mins! If you want a link just shout.
