These Swedish bands are GREAT. Seek them out on YouTube or LastFm and have a listen. What do they do, in Sweden, that it makes such cool musical geniuses? Is geniuses a word? We’re raising the big issues over here at Mike’s. Let’s begin….
Shout Out Louds
The Radio Dept
Hello Saferide
Jens Lekman
Lykke Li
Peter Bjorn and John
Jose Gonzales
Hakan Hellstrom
The Knife
Stina Nordenstam
El Perro Del Mar
The Concretes
Lo Fi-Fnk
Those Dancing Days
Jenny Wilson
Um…. and Astrid Lindgren. OK.. not part of the rock n pop theme, but worth a Swedish listen!
Also. The vegetable SWEDE. I don’t really like it. I don’t even know what it’s about, to tell the truth. Do you know? It’s not pretty, but I don’t mind that. It’s just not very nice to eat. In my opinion? Am I doing SWEDE wrong? Perhaps I am. Do you have any bright ideas about SWEDE? Do you like it? Do tell me, lovely reader.
It’s Ari’s birthday tomorrow. We’re holed up for a night of chilled drinks (it’s HOT!) and wrapping presents way too late and last minute. What are you doing? Cooking SWEDE perhaps?
xx Pip

so many yummy swede suggestions. I loved how you put it in capitals Pip, SWEDE. Seems more important. When I read it out in my head in the capitals I say it slower.
Anyway I love roast swede, and swede in a curry. But I am a fan of the brussel sprout, so I might just like the soury vege.
I am not cooking a swede right now. I am contemplating putting on the telly for some movie action.
The best/unhealthiest way to eat swede is to grate it into a baking/caserole dish and add heaps of butter. Then bake till golden and crispy… yum.
Maybe the swedes grown up here in the north taste better than elsewhere? I have a sister and a SIL living in Germany, and they don’t like the local swedes (the vegs!), but bring some from Finland to make the traditional Christmas casserole. It tastes really good when cooked slowly.
Swede is something I always avoided too. My mum has set me right. It is great in stews and casseroles if let sweat with the other vege at the beginning of the cooking process. My favourite dish to put swede in is Lamb Navarin. There is a great recipe/method to follow in Constance Spry Cookery Book. She is the older day (if there is such a phrase) Stephanie Alexander and her book is full of great hints and instructions. You might have to wait to try the Lamb Navarin until the weather cools though.
Happy Birthday to Ari and my dad!
The Knife! Yeah! My no. ! all time fave.
Now could they please reform and come tour Australia?
Happy bday Ari-kid
xx
My nan used to cook mashed swede and then make me eat them….eurgh! since then swede hasn’t had quite the attractivness you would expect it to.
have a good day tomorrow!
xx
Yep. The Cure with Swedish accents and less eyeliner!
That Shout Out Louds song sounds so much like The Cure. No?
Am I the only one who likes the veg? Boiled and then covered with lashings of butter and some seasoning. Yum! In soup, in pasties, in casserole – good too. Mash it with potatoes and carrot for a twist on mashed potato.
I love The Cardigans as well…they fit in with the pop n rock theme 😀
i also love Kristian Matsson (the tallest man alive) and Club 8 and i think you would too!
you know, everything swedish is great!
(except for our (my) english…)

I don’t even think I’ve tried Swede.. However I have tried a few of the Swedish things that are on your list, and must concur, Swedes are good all’rounders, huh? Swedish design is the bomb.
Happy Birthday Ari! Have a wonderful family night.
