A Week of Vintage Children’s Book Illustration – Day 3

March 19, 2008

The Anatole series is illustrated by Paul Galdone. I absolutely love everything about these – the drawings, the colours, the expressions, the scenes depicted. Just a beautiful series by a very talented illustrator. So very highly recommended!
The series includes Anatole, Anatole and the Cat, Anatole and the Toy Shop, Anatole and the Poodle and Anatole and the Piano. First published in 1956.

Yes, I love these books with the three-tone coloring. Usually red teal and gray. REALLY wonderful story too. Look at all those cute little mousies sleeping in a row. I am losing so much time this week reading all these Book Blogs. But it is really terrific fun.

It’s fun to peek into Anatole’s life…He has the most charming family & home in Paris. I have a book which tells the story of how he becomes a cheese critic. Magnifique!
