Hello

A Week of Vintage Australiana – with Gemma – Day 3 – Are you keeping up?!

April 29, 2008

Light as a feather, strong as a lion

When I first moved to Melbourne I lived near Malvern. I used to say Malvern not Malvern. That is to say – “Mal” like “Cal” in California. And “Vern” like “fern”. Not “Maul-Vaughn” like they say locally.

Boo Hoo – I was saying for about 6 months with people laughing behind my back. I had been saying that for years because I had a Malvern Star bicycle. And its true – my bike came from somewhere up the road from my first little Melbourne flat. A guy called Bruce was a pretty good bike salesman. And Hubert was a rad cyclist. Together they made a superfantastic team that shot Malvern Star to the stars! They made world class bikes for all the kids and all the sporty types (including Olymipians)! Hooray! And it doesn’t matter how you say it – just pedal it.
