Hello

A Week of Favourite Things – My Favourite Book

March 3, 2009

Amy Krouse Rosenthal is a total ace-ling. She wrote my absolute favourite book – ‘Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life’. I first found this book at ‘The Hill of Content’ bookshop on Bourke Street, in Melbourne City. It was my birthday a few years ago (maybe 3) – and we’d been to The European for Breakfast (which included crispy dry delicious champagne) – and then wandered into the bookstore – a perfect birthday morning in every way.

I spotted this book a mile away. I was attracted to it’s cheery, colourful cover- and the ‘A is for AMY’ written the spine! Amy (not THIS Amy Krouse, though!) is a dear friend of mine – who lives in Barcelona – and it felt like she was wishing me a birthday hello when I saw this book. Of course I had to have it – and then we swung down to Pellegrini’s and had a coffee and I giggled my way through the first pages of this book in delight.

I really love the way Amy writes. She’s funny and honest and flawed. Anne Lamott reminds me a little of her, in terms of style…. but Amy is funnier, I swear. And I LOVE Anne Lamott, so that’s totally saying something! Do you know that I emailed Amy once and told her how much Max (my 12 year old son) liked this book. AND she wrote back. AND she said he must be a great kid. AND he is. So there you go!

If you are so inclined, you can buy this book here.

xx Pip

Ps – you can join in on a week of favourite things, if you would like to!

I just got it from the library. Loving it. It seems to be on a few “my favourite book” lists – am finally creeping out of the first year of parenthood (a bit after the milestone) – yay for reading!

    More good books please!
