Hello

We heart Marcel Marlier! Our collection so far!

December 3, 2006

Marcel Marlier is an amazing Belgian illustrator who illustrated a large number of French childrens books – which were translated into many languages… In France they had ‘Martine Learns to Dance’ etc.. but here… we got ‘Debbie Learns to Dance’ and a whole series about Debbies exploits!!

We also have “Johnny and Sophie in the Forest” too! But I can’t find it!

I just wanted to leave a message from the UK. My mum ready Debbie’s party to me several hundred times back in the 1980s. I’m now reading the very same book to my daughter in 2025! We love the illustrations so much. Especially the glow on the children’s faces when they blow out the candles. And I can’t read the last page without getting emotional!! Thank you for your wonderful work Jo Wood x

      Jo! Hello you!
This is really lovely. There is magic in those books, I think. They’re so pretty and cute and sweet … with so many adorable details. I’m glad you are a fellow fan. I must dig mine out and do a post about them again. I still have quite a few and find the occasional one a couple of times a year at the op shop, even.
Hoping you are as well as you can be.
      Thanks for checking in!

    Mr. Rios,
I am curious… did you buy all the books? (I hope you did!).
    Which titles did you find?

    Laure,
What happened with your party? How did it turned to be? Did you find Mr. Marlier?

I hope you can read my questions!! Best regards,
    Priscilla

Hi I am laure from Belgium and I love Tiny (that’s how we call her) I still have a closet full of tiny books from me my mother and my grandmother. She showed me how to be creative, to read, play,be creative,…. and I still often read her books just because they are so pretty. And because it’s my eighteenth birthday I am throwing a Tiny party with the lampions and the cake ,the tiny dresscode and so on. I will do some research here to see if he’s still alive. If i find him I’ll innvite him to the party. I’ll let you know If I found him.

JUST LAST NIGHT, I CAME ACROSS A HIDDEN BASTIAN OF HIS MARLIER’S ILLUSTRATED FRENCH AND ITALIAN BOOKS, AT A DISCOUNT SHOP>>> FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME… I WAS BLOWN AWAY.

I AM AN ACTIVE METROPOLITAN ARTIST, MURALIST AND ART TEACHER TO WARD OF THE COURT AND FOSTER CHILDREN. GOING ON 15 YEARS. BEFORE THIS, I ACTUALLY WAS A WORLD LEADER OF THE GRAFFITI ART MOVEMENT IN 1980’S-1994… AND TRAVELED ABROAD TO PAINT IN SWITZERLAND, MEXICO CITY… INVITED TO JAPAN, RUSSIA, ETC. I HAVE MET COUNTLESS OF INCREDIBLY DYNAMIC AND UNMATCHABLE ARTISTS, ILLUSTRATORS, PAINTERS. ETC….

BUT,THERE IS JUST SOMETHING ABOUT HIS WORK THAT IS DIFFERENT. I BELIEVE IT HAS TO BE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. HE APPROACHES SUCH A DELICATE AND FRAGILE SUBJECT AS A LITTLE TENDER GIRL AND HER WORLD… WITH SO MUCH RESPONSIBILITY, CLEANLINESS, RESPONSIBILITY AND CARE… TRULY A MAN OF SCRUPLES AND INTEGRITY. TODAY, ESPECIALLY IN THE HOLLYWOOD SATURATED AND X-RATED MEDIA INFLUENCE, MARCEL MARLIER’S WORK WOULD BE EITHER LAUGHED TO SCORN OR CENSORED COMPLETELY. HIS WORK NOT ONLY REPRESENTS TRUE AND HONEST CRAFTMANSHIP, MASTERY OF FORM< ARCHITECTURE AND COLOR... HE REPRESENTS A TIME, PLACE AND WORLD, WHERE LIFE WAS JUST SO MUCH SIMPLER AND SAFER. THE 1960’S AND 70’S IS WHAT HIS ARTWORK AND ADOLESCENTS SEEM TO ENCOMPASS… BUT LAST NIGHT, WHEN I FIRST BEHELD THIS WORLD OF MARCIER…. IT TRUTHFULLY AND UNEQUIVOCALLY IS TIMELESS* HECTOR RIOS – ARTERNATIVES

After surfing the net many times I still can’t get any information about Marcel Marlier. I think that he is an artistic genius and would love to know more about him. He has had a huge influence on my artistic style . Somebody out there must know where he lives now, is he still painting, has he a family etc.
