Hello

Totally Camp!

April 3, 2009

Woodland Rock!, originally uploaded by Esther Aarts.

I like illustrations depicting camping. They are mosquito and dirt free in a way that ACTUAL camping isn’t. But this year we are going in the ballot to try to get a campsite at The Prom over Christmas. Gulp. I MIGHT just HAVE to deal with mosquitoes and dirt then.

I will try to concentrate on the positives like making sausage and mashed potato jaffles on the gasmate, if we do. I will take my rose coloured glasses. I will need them. Gulp again.

Do you love this illustration as much as I do?!

xx Pip

I adore this illustration. i looked everywhere for a camping illustration to put on the masthead of a camping newsletter going out to our huge family prior to our annual family camp out.
My advice take a good book and plenty of vodka!

Yes! I love the camping illustration. Of course I am probably biased because I LOVE camping, but I think it looks like a pretty acurate representation of camping! We are going camping at easter. Can’t wait! (The caravan park, luxurious kind not the bush/dig a hole kind)

I adore this, Pip! Especially love the minmial use of colour; reminds me of the children’s picture books of the 1950s and 60s like Eloise, Madeline and No Roses for Harry, where the gorgeous illustrations were so expressive, they didn’t need the fluorescent colour we often see today (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). How I crave to see book colour like those used by M Sasek – ‘This is New York’, ‘This is Paris’ etc – in children’s books today. I think they’re creeping back…
Anyway, I’m ranting – you’ve inspired me to post some pics of my retro postcards!!

I love this illustration. So cute, and it reminds me of things at summer camp, like new friends and fun outdoorsy activities (I think I may not have as much of an aversion to the outdoorsy stuff as you sound like you may! – however, I don’t think anyone on earth is fond of mosquitos.)

hee hee, forget the rose-coloured glasses in favour of the Rose and Pinot, there’s my tip of the day on camping ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Emjie April 3, 2009 at 8:05 AM

    Yep! Cute is the word.

    totally cute!!!

At least camping at The Prom you have a general store, flushing toilets, warm showers and wombats sneaking into your tents at night !! Could be worse!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ That is UNLESS you are not staying at Tidal River and going bush?!?! Then I would do a BIG gulp!!!

anyway.. yes i heart this pic a lot! x
