Over Christmas and New Years and while I have been making projects for Book 3, I have been watching some good stuff. I thought I would make a list of some of things I liked, in case you are stuck for something to watch. And maybe you could add some things to the list in the comments. Here is what I have been watching…
Movies
Grey Gardens : 1975 version : A very long, very awesome documentary about Edie and Edie Bouvier Beale (cousin and niece of Jackie Kennedy) and their chaotic, decaying seaside mansion in East Hampton.
Grey Gardens : with Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange : The very excellent bio-pic based on the Grey Gardens documentary. Drew is ah-mays-ing!
The Kids Are Alright : I really liked this film. Annette Bening and Julianne Moore are fantastic in it.
The Social Network : fascinating and treacherous. Eduardo was my favourite. Mark, less so…
TV/Online
Breaking Bad : on iTunes and also on the ABC (I think!) : this series is gritty, challenging and really awesome. Not for the faint hearted, though!
Wired : on iView and the ABC : Episode one has just screened here. A mini-series about bank fraud starring my favourite Rochester, Toby Stephens
Hawke : on iTunes : directed by the rad chick who directs Coco-Rosie’s videos, Emma Freeman. And starring the fabulous Sacha Horler and the luminous Asher Keddie.
Skellig : on iView : with the lovely Kelly MacDonald (Evangeline from Nanny McPhee) and with sterling performances by young Bill Milner (from Son of Rambow) and Skye Bennett (who was in Ballet Shoes) as Michael and Mina.
A Fortunate Life : on DVD : gruelling Australian drama based on the life of Albert Facey in the early 1900s
Come in Spinner : on DVD : Australian mini-series filmed in 1990 with Rebecca Gibney and Kerry Armstrong
The Harp In The South : on DVD : a really excellent adaptation of the late Ruth Park’s novel about an Irish Family living in the slums of Sydney’s Surry Hills in the late 1940s. It features Kaarin Fairfax, who I adore.
Palace of Dreams : on DVD : about a Russian Jewish family running a pub in Sydney during the depression
Modern Family : via iTunes
Bored To Death : via iTunes
The Real Housewives of DC (honestly! It’s my dirty secret!) : via a friend
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (even dirtier) : via a friend
Celebrity Rehab : I KNOW. But I really like this show. I like to see people triumph over their demons, I guess.
Outnumbered : Ari and I love this show : on iTunes or also showing on ABC
MadMen : I finished this a little while ago and I loved Season 4, particularly the Peggy’s birthday episode.
Offspring : because it’s filmed in my suburb and I love Sacha Horler and Asher Keddie! A new season is on the way, so I am hoping that Nina might pull herself together a bit, and be a bit more awesome.
