Hello Pip-Life

:: Shooting For The Circle with Love Local Fashion

May 31, 2012
Today I spent the afternoon with Rin filming a segment for The Circle. It will air on June 20th and it’s a little bit of a rundown on Rin’s wedding and how we went about it. We had heaps of fun shooting with Aleisha (of the very ace blog Love Local Fashion) and Sam and the boys. It’s FUN doing TV things, but when I watch myself back later I want to vomit. I am sure that is normal.
I HOPE that some people who are planning weddings get inspired and DON’T spend up too big. I hope they watch our segment and think about all the ways they can add cute and save  money too, by inviting their friends and family to help out with wedding preparations!
I hope that happens!
Did you get married? (I didn’t!) What was it like, if you did..?!

xx Pip

I got married to mr me nearly 13 years ago, but we'd lived together for a few years before that too… it was a sort of big village church affair for my parents, with homemadey bits too – i wore the dress that my grandmother had made for my mothers wedding, my boys aunt made the cake, we made the favours ourselves, and the church flowers were straight from the garden…mainly though i remember our friends and family celebrating and dancing, having no money for a honeymoon and going to stay for a week in a very rainy Anglesea (tiny Welsh island!)in a caravan – we were just babies ourselves really but it was just gorgeous!

oh I'll look forward to streaming it! I loved the family community feel like everyone did a little bit look of RIn's wedding. I loved our wedding day but Tim (husbie) was really sick and we didn't spend too much money so I was happy about that too (so were our parents ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nope… never married. Looking forward to seeing your segment though… maybe one day my baby girl will tie the knot.

    Hi Pip!
Love the pics of Rin's wedding.
I'm getting married on the 1st of September this year (3 months to go!) and we're trying to be as strict as we can on our budget. I'm hand-making things and calling in loads of favours. Unfortunately you can't get married outside in the UK which is bonkers, otherwise we would be getting married in a field or forest of some sort, so we're doing the church and reception thing but trying to make it as unique as we are. I've also started keeping a little wedding blog myself to keep all my Aussie friends (who are coming!!) in the loop with my preparations: soprettywasshe.com
Can't wait to see you guys on The Circle

We had 2 weddings – one in Brooklyn City Hall in New York with just Sean's parents, which was a compete surprise (all organised by my wonderfully romantic husband!) and one in my family parish church in Dorset for my family a year later. Both simple, thrifty affairs which were so special and unique, with everyone joining in the preparations.

I hope this happens to. Reality TV seems to have ramped up the spending on weddings to a ridiculous degree and taken away the sense of community, putting it in the hands of a wedding planner and taking the personalized joy out of the equation. Love to see a return to the modernized simpler.

    Hi Pip,

We got married 4 years ago. It was such a lovely day! Not the least because I will never have to plan a wedding for myself ever again! It was a huge effort but absolutely worth it.

We had a traditional wedding in a lovely old church followed by lunch at a restaurant at a winery. It cost around $18,000 and we split it in 3rds with our parents. We made our own invites and skipped on things that weren't important to us (some things we DIDN'T buy: $120 for bows on pews! $175 for a cake topper! table centrepieces, extra decorations for the church, fancy cars/limos) but mostly I was very fortunate to have family and relatives who helped out – a pro photographer and an aunt who adjusted my wedding dress for me, plus the mountains of work my Mum and I did. Having only 1 bridesmaid helped. The other thing that helped was that we had a lunch wedding – the food was excellent but still a lot cheaper than a dinner, we didn't need a band (though the string trio was one of the highlights for my Grandad and worth every penny – he still talks about it!) and I was much happier to not have to stay up too late.

We did splash out on some things, including chocolate bonbonierres (which we – aka Mum – decorated), button hole flowers and corsages for all the parents and grandparents, a bus to transport everyone to and from venues, hair and make up trials and linen to make the restaurant look like a function rather than a cafe and a most delicious cake (other than to marry my darling husband, delicious cake was my only other big request for the day). My Mum paid for some things that she really wanted (including extra guests).

Oh, I'd forgotten how wonderful it was, thank you for the memories ๐Ÿ™‚ I loved the photos of Rin's wedding – it looked just perfect for them, just like our wedding was perfect for us.

    Wahoo!
Great to meet you both Pip and thanks for the link to the fashion blog. We had a great shoot with you and I think the story will be super fun and informative.
Can't wait to share some pics of our big day with you too!
    Gee whiz, that's creeping up

I smiled the whole way through Rin's wedding photos. I love seeing you on The Circle Pip and can't wait to see the wedding segment.

    hi Pip,
my partner and I got married recently and did things the cheaper/diy way. Family certainly helped out a lot with his parents doing the catering and my parents growing the flowers. My sister and I baked the cakes (we had 3) and she also knitted me a beautiful lace shawl to wear on the day. I'm so glad we did things our way because the day turned out to be totally special, casual and fun- exactly how we wanted it.
What I didn't enjoy leading up to the wedding was all the 'helpful' suggestions from people about what simply MUST be done at weddings. Apparently, having 3 single cakes instead of one tiered cake can be very upsetting for some people….
I blogged about it over at my blog Etchy Sketchy. here's the link…

Hey, Pip – I DID get married – 37 years ago today ! We had a very simple wedding, my only wish from that day is that I'd had a better photos of the occasion. My son got married a few years ago, lovely wedding, and now my daughter is planning hers and it happens in a few months. She decided from the start that she wouldn't get overwhelmed with it, all the choices and spending, and would have fun. So far, I think it's going well.

I enjoy your blog so much and have been looking at your books on Amazon, hoping to make a purchase soon.

    Thank you !

i got married last year at the hall in the valley i grew up in. we had a bush dance. my special ladies and i arrived on the back of the bush brigade fire truck with the siren going. we called it 'love & whimsy' and it was dreamy! it was completely done on a shoestring and it was like a mini festival.

Hav taken a peep at the wedding and it is stunning! Just the sort of do my daughter hopes for one day(and the family and friends are all on stand by). Our wedding 45 years ago was held in our in laws garden. All decorations, flowers and catering done by me and my new family. So glad to see that it has come full circle and others are discovering that you don't have to waste a house deposit to do it in style!,

I've been married for nearly 12yrs ( YIKES) ! It was super basic but so much fun. I know I remember the fun parts- our wedding singer handing out hats & instruments & making people stand on their chairs to sing to us- the special parts (like dancing with mum to the song I was named after )& how excited I was to be married to my man. Everything else just doesn't matter…..

  • pip lincolne May 31, 2012 at 10:26 PM

Phew. I'm Okay. You're Okay! I am glad you understand! It's like you've been pulled out of yourself and put somewhere else, I think. Very disconcerting! x
