The amazing Alice and Martin Provensen illustrated more than 40 amazing books… including many of our favourite Little Golden Books! Funny Bunny, The Color Kittens and The Little Fat Policeman are amongst the best.
When they met in the early 1940s, alice was working at the Walter Lantz (think Woody Woodpecker!) studios, and martin at Disney studios… they met when Walter joined the navy and was transferred to the Walter Lantz studios to create instructional films for army personnel.
Gustaf Tenggren (illustrator of, amongst so many others, The Poky Little Puppy) was a dear friend of the Provensens.. and introduced them to the world of book illustration.. and the rest is history! Hurrah for Gustaf.. and Hurrah for the Provensens and their lovely, gentle, sweet, colouful pictures.
