:: Making It Handmade : Sunday ABC2

August 13, 2011

If you live in Australia you can see Anna Brownfield’s film about the contemporary craft scene, Making It Handmade on ABC2 tomorrow (Sunday) night.  It’s on at 9.30! Go Anna!  It’s not an easy thing to get your show on the telly, so huge congratulations to Anna!  Well deserved, methinks.

The film features Gemma Jones, Faythe Levine, Rayna Fahey, Casey Jenkins and moi.  It was produced, shot and edited by Anna Brownfield and premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival last year.

Write this in your diary, or set your equipment to record, because you are going to love Anna’s film!

xx Pip

Hi, loved the doco. Its great craft is getting recognized and in some ways reinvented.

Im a crafter from way back in the 70s, showing my age now. I'm also a full time artist working on immersing my craft skills with collage, sculpture and installation work.

Love the group and the philosophy and may visit one day Keep up the good work!

Hello Pip, I am Rhonda from Down to Earth. I watched Making it Handmade and it made me want to come here and say hello. I know we're a far apart in age but I feel connected to you by craft and the love of it.

I loved seeing your little shop and the craft group. It's inspired me to add a Crafternoon at my local neighbourhood centre where we already have a sewing circle and teach bread, soap and jam making, but I think this no rules craft group will be as much about connection as creation.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with such clarity.

    Hi Pip,
I just watched Making it Handmade.
I feel so bolstered from listening to craft being described as meaningful, valuable and even revolutionary!!
It's so nice to have that inner sense of mine that being crafty is important acknowledged. I must confess I have been crafting with a teensy sense of embarrassment at being a bit daggy. But no more!!!
From now on, I craft with pride!

So thanks for the heads up. Glad I caught the show.

PS. it was nice to see you too ๐Ÿ™‚

    Miss Pip!

I saw it advertised on Twitter and got all excited, msg'd my friends to watch it, sit down all excited when it starts and then find… I'm in it! That was me shopping in your store! Because I was sitting there thinking, "that's exactly how I remember Pip looking when I visited the store…" Ha ๐Ÿ™‚ *Wow* So freaking excited right now!

    xx

  • Tricia - The Itchy Eyes August 13, 2011 at 9:19 PM

Good on ABC2 huh! They've been showing some great local documentaries (thinking specifically of the 6fthick one not so long ago) which showcase not only local filmmakers but local artists. Will be watching eagerly! And REBECCA – check iView on Monday (they typically put most local docs they show up there for two weeks after air time).
