When I first discovered the world of blogging, I was shocked. I had heard the term used in conversation, and I knew, (that kind of deep-down knowing), that blogs were weird. They were for hairy people who sat in dark rooms and picked lint from their own navels. They were for tech heads, geeks, wowsers and extremists. The very word made me feel uncomfortable. Icky. Prickly. And then I found Loobylu – (and not a prickle in sight).
When I found Loobylu’s blog, little (pretend) bluebirds singing pretty songs flew about the room. It was full of nice stuff, special photos, lovely drawing, happy times and interesting posts. And there were links! To other nice blogs… and before I knew it me, Google and several high profile Blogrolls had come up with a list of favourites like Soulemama, Nikkishell, Posy Gets Cosy and Angry Chicken.
Suffice to say, I was hooked.. and dipped my toe in the Blogger water pretty soon after that, discovering the weirdness of the double return, widgets and those strange letters you have to type in when you comment.
Anyhow.. this gets me to today’s Neilism – A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You. In my experience the blogging world is a wonderful way of connecting with like minded people. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are – there is someone out there a little bit like you… even a lot like you.
There’s been a heap of negative talk on the blogs this year, mostly centred around copying and the like… but for me blogs are the goodness. They are the place to make you feel inspired and excited and amongst lovely friends. They’re just the spot to make you marvel at how clever people are.. and how kind they can be too! I use their powers for good, not evil.
So, today… I’m making my list of blogs that make me feel like I’m okay just the way I am, and that make me feel lucky to a blogging gal. I reckon these gals would/do ‘get’ me… if we were stranded on a desert island, they wouldn’t eye me off as a potential food source. They’d help me fashion a cute raft from sticks and reeds and get us safely home with good humour, admiring the scenery along the way. I visit their blogs every day.. even if they didn’t post.. just in case.. perhaps an edit.. or a layout change?!
The List:
Loobylu – because she wasn’t the type of blogger to pick lint from her navel and she made me see how GREAT blogs could be.. and she loves Tove like me! And I would NEVER have started a blog if hers hadn’t been so lovely!
Bricolage Life – because she knows what i like.. and I know what she likes.. and we like each other… and i would like to go to Sweden with her
Gemma Jones – because she’s so different to me.. but she’s so very very much the same. And she’s the queen of the Fantastical Fun Fair.. well she would be, if there was one.
Orange You Lucky – because i would be her best friend if i could, and we both love Boney M
Lily and Agathe and The-Lark – because they are blogging besties… which makes me smile… and we all like polka-dots, golden books, vintage cute and eating delicious food.
Kootoyoo, Three Buttons and Boobook – because they are my friends and they’ve seen me when I’ve had too much to drink. And they didn’t think i looked THAT dumb. And they make me feel special.
This.. is the abridged list.. there’s a heap more people I could add in here… but you’d get bored. Special mentions to anyone who has supported Mikes and put their things in our shop, to anyone who has come to Brown Owls and put up with my incessant showing off, to anyone that regularly clicks over and reads what I write, and to those of you who try and shop at Mikes and support our little enterprise! Oooh.. that’s like a logies speech… perhaps we need the Craft Logies?! I’ll write that down.
