Hello

Jelly Cakes, Tutorials and Sharing Stuff

June 12, 2007

Moki has started this very lovely sharing crafty blog! It’s in its brand-new-baby-blog-phase at the moment… so go have a look.. and if you have anything to share, be sure to email Moki!

Whilst on the subject of sharing, does anyone have a favourite blog tutorial? Mine (at the moment!) is the one of sew mama sew about how to put a zip in! OK.. i am admittedly a very basic sewer.. but this really makes it look kind of easy… well i haven’t tried it yet.. but I will do it today… if i get some printer ink.. so i can print it out and take it downstairs where the sewing machine is.. and then i can refer to it… excuses excuses!)

If you have written a tutorial that you are very proud of, then let me know.. and we can link to it! Because tutorials are really great. And i would love to create a link column for all your faves too… so let me know! And we can let the world know!

We have four places left for embroidery night! Get stitching!

Yesterday my house was sick! Well, Ari and I were sick… and Max was PS2-ing on the couch for most of the day… I made jelly cakes and did a babushka embroidery. Ari blobbed about… I didn’t get to meet Lululollylegs which was so unfair! Next time I’ll be sure to, though!

Thanks to Kylie Kwong for the recipe.. it’s just like my Nan’s! Perhaps it came from the Women’s Weekly too?!

xx mikes

Yumm Jelly Cakes – I will have to give them a go. Tutorials – most of my favorites have been listed but I am making this at the moment for my MIL for her Birthday http://sewing.about.com/od/homedecprojects/ss/clothespinbag.htm

The stitch night sounds like fun – yes I would also be in on a weekend one – I am in country Vic as well.

Glad to see your jelly cakes worked out so well. I watched her make them on TV and the kids have been begging me to make them ever since – I’ll have to give them a go. I just used a tutorial on Wisecraft to make a fabric flower brooch. It worked perfectly, I put in onto a card as a thank you to a friend.

The embroidery night sounds great – I wish I could go, but I live in the country. Maybe if it’s a big hit, you could have another one, but on a weekend?
Just think of how many excellent crafters there are out there who DON’T have blogs…
Best wishes to all at Mikes and have fun stitchin’!

I’m going to use that zipper tutorial, that’s for sure, I already bought the fabric to make a skirt, but was too afraid to start, because of the zipper!

    I love your blog!!
As for tutorials, I found this great one on how to sew piping into bags, it’s also great for sewing piping into cushions. It was on a blog called U-Handbag. It’s really easy to follow, here’s the link

Jelly cakes. Love ’em. Now they would be sure to make you feel better. My Grandma used to split them and fill them with fresh whipped cream. Two of my favourite easy-peasy tutorials are:
