Hello

Jake Tilson Is My Homeboy

March 6, 2009

You could be forgiven for thinking this was a book blog, lately… I think it’s the impending cooler weather that’s making me all feathery and nesty and literary. I just want to curl up each night with a nice book and a pot of chai and escape from the world of keystrokes and desktop alerts, ya know?

I saw this book on one of the food blogs I frequent. I can’t remember which one, so forgive me if it was yours, lovely food blogger!

Jake Tilson. Sigh. He’s a man of many talents – and luckily for him I’m spoken for and he’s happily ensconced with a lovely crafty lady somewhere in the UK – or else it would be on, I reckon. I think I like him more then Stubbsy, and you know that’s saying a lot. Maybe it’s all hypothetical and he’s a total hoaxy prat. But somehow I know that’s not true. You need to get Jake’s book. It’s called ‘A Tale of 12 Kitchens’. It’s not a new release or anything, but we’re not into the latest and greatest in The Land Of Mike. We’re just into good stuff. And Jake Tilson is totally good stuff.

Jake’s book is a craftily cobbled together ode to food, eating together, doing things by hand (the long way), the importance of family, nostalgia, old traditions, new traditions, making a mess, making things beautiful, travelling, colour, history, recipes, life and love. I know it looks like I’ve shown you all the good stuff already – but really, this book has 256 pages of bloody good stuff. I want to look at it all the time, and I’ll admit it made my teary with happiness when I started to flick through this book. I want everyone to live the sort of lives shown in this book. I really do.

Think 12 kitchens in four very different countries and eighty fantastic, hearty, colourful family recipes. Heaps of meaty things. Heaps of vegetarian things. Heaps of gorgeous photos referencing everything from vintage packaging and typography to messy, sauce smudged Nonna recipes. This book is just as happy snuggled up in bed with you, as it is in the kitchen. So versatile, no?!

Hopefully Jake will not dump me as a potential friend for posting so many images from his book – but I really want you to see it in all it’s glory (without showing so much I get a writ in the post tomorrow!). You will need to find out more about Jake I think…

So –
go here to see more about Jake and his ace projects and books and things
and
go here to buy his book

Hurrah for Jake!

xx Pip
