I Lykke Swedish Things

January 4, 2009

Friendly Fires cover Lykke Li

Lingonberry Jam and the Swedish Furniture Name Generator are amongst them. But that’s not what I’m talking about. Lykke Li busted out her Swedish moves at a super packed Prince Bandroom last night. Think Cyndi Lauper at a Drumming Workshop after a few packets of Starburst and a cuppla cups of coffee and you’d be right on the money. Smocked up and weighed down with heaps of silver gypsy trinkets and a huge amount of blonde hair, Ms Li jumped and thrashed and wailed and sweetly sang her way through her debut album, with some surprise Vampire Weekend and Kings of Leon covers thrown in for the kids.

A few adorable backing singers wouldn’t have gone astray – but the boys in the band did a great job keeping up with their cymbal-smashing, pocket rocket, electro-pop princess, regardless.

Do you know what I like? I like a girl who takes a megaphone on stage. I like a girl who shuffles her consonants around like chess pieces and can still sound intelligible. I like a girl who dances like she’s in her bedroom and no one is watching. If you like those things you might like Lykke Li too. Yes you might.
