Ahh.. the Barbie Townhouse.. same sort of vintage as the aforementioned Family Tree House by Kenner.
I loved this… even though the lift cord got tangled all the time. And LOOK! It’s 3 and a half feet high! That’s practically a penthouse..! My Sindy used to enjoy hanging out in this with Barbie.. although she was a little more generously proportioned, and bumped into things a lot. And she didn’t fit into Barbie’s clothes, either – unless she left the top button undone (sounds familiar!).
(This ‘That Girl’ Barbie looks NOTHING like Marlo Thomas, I might add.)
We painted some orange onto the walls at Brunswick St yesterday.. well actually Cam did.. and I went to get more fabric from Spotlight and made 20 little zip pouches for Mikes! I’m on sewing mission, which resulted in (apart from 20 zip purses) 4 little girls skirts, 3 little girls dresses, 3 little girls smocks and two big girls apron tops (phew!).
This week involves building fitting rooms (no idea how you do that – Michael and Cam are in charge)… making tea-cosies and totes and some cute pants for little boys.
I have one sore tonsil today.. which had me up at 2.30 chugging antiobiotics and panadol – but the upside was that Angie Hart’s new clip was on the ABC – tres burlesque and sweet at the same time. I love Angie Hart!
OK.. enough waffle..! I really WILL take photos of Mikes 2 today… truly truly!
Happy Birthday Jess, for Saturday.
xx mikes

I was so jealous of a friend of mine that got one of these for Xmas! I wasn’t into Barbie that much, I don’t know why, I had a similar doll called “Dynamite” She had long blonde hair & wore a purple flared jumpsuit, does anyone remember her? I tended to make my own rooms for her out of shoe boxes using textas, fabric, glue & cardboard. I used to design her sofa with big flowers on it. I always had that design thing in me I guess. Seeing the penthouse brought all those memories flooding back, thanx, retroppo x
I had one of those too! Your post really brings back memories! 😀
Oh me, me, me, that was all mine, NOT my big sister’s. The lift, the ridiculously small areas for Barbie to live in, plus i made her furniture from toothpicks & those old cardboard covers hotels use over the glasses in the bathroom. Now i feel like a winner, love Posie
Oh yes, I had the Barbie townhouse too – and still have it, squirreled away in the cupboard at my parent’s house, waiting for my daughter/s to be old enough to play with it safely. It’s resting beside the Barbie beach bus and the barbie furniture – and the Sindy furniture as well . . .
Pip! You should come and see Angie Hart with my friends and I on the 19th! It’s at the Toff in Town, above Cookie. I’m sure it will be lovely, and you’d even get to meet my lovely boy who makes me jewellery out of lego!
I heard that Angie Hart was going to be on Rage. But couldn’t stay awake! I love her too!
oh I wanted one of these desperately too!! I used to love the look of the barbie lift :O)

My sister must have hated my guts because I had the Barbie townhouse, campervan and the Knner treehouse. I loved that treehouse, and all things Playmobil. Have you seen the price of that stuff these days? Yikes. I kept house in those things and wanted so much to have a real live Campervan. I shared a room with my sister and she was messy and I was neat, she couldn’t mess up my Campervan though, could she? No! And, she cut off Sindy’s hair. She was a butcher.
I had that very same Barbie townhouse!
