I’ve made this simple tutorial on using your FLICKR Favourites to make a mosaic with Big Huge Labs very excellent Mosaic Maker.
You probably also know that you can upload images from your computer to make a mosaic or use individual URLS (from Flickr or Photobucket or other sources) to mosaic-up too!
Have FUN! You can play around with the layout quite a bit – and download to your blog in various sizes too! Don’t be scared to experiment – just upload your mosaic to FLICKR marked as PRIVATE whilst you are learning! You can change your mosaic’s image privacy to public once you are happy with it!
If you’re not uploading to (and then from) Flickr (which I HIGHLY recommend), but rather are saving the image to your computer, be sure to copy the links to your blog post first!
If you have any further tips, feel free to add them to the comments section!
xx Mikes

It’s Super Easy Except for the HTML Links that Link Back to the Images NOT WORKING!
I use Blogger – and the html code that shows up in the little box – the code that Big Huge Labs asks you to cut and paste into your blog post – well, it doesn’t work for me. I just cut and paste the ACTUAL LINKS that Big Huge Labs shows under the image straight into BLOGGER and that works. So if this sounds like your issue – forget the HTML. Just cut and paste the actual list of links into your blog post.

Blank Spaces in Big Huge Labs Mosaic?!
TROUBLESHOOTING ADVICE – Do you have a blank space in your lovely mosaic? Is it driving you mad?! Sometimes on Flickr people ‘opt-out’ of BIG HUGE LABS because they don’t want their images used elsewhere. If you’ve favourited someones image and they’ve opted out of BIG HUGE LABS – the space where their image would have been shows up as a blank spot. BUT HOLD IT! You can fix that!
- Just say you’ve made your mosaic and it’s loaded on the Big Huge Labs page and OH NO! THERE ARE BLANK SPACES! Stop right there! Don’t click away yet! Do this: Keep the BIG HUGE LABS window open. The one with the blank gaps in it.
- IN A NEW (EXTRA) WINDOW – Open Flickr and go to your favourites. NOW, referring to the gappy mosaic, have a look at which image/s are missing. Don’t close either window/tab yet! We can fix this!
- By toggling between the gappy BIG HUGE LABS mosaic window and your Flickr faves you should be able to see which (missing) images have been ‘opted out’.
- What you need to do is click on those (MISSING IN MOSAIC) images in your FLICKR FAVES – the image will open up in it’s own window. Now see where it says ‘A Fave’ with a little star above this (MISSING IN MOSAIC) image – click this star to UNFAVOURITE that image (just for the time being – you can go back and favourite it again once we’ve fixed the gappy mosaic).
- NEXT – in the Big Huge Labs Gappy Mosaic Window – Click EDIT which will take you back to the window where you were constructing your mosaic. Adjust the number of images and layout – because you’ve just deleted one image from your favourites (you might want to go back to Flickr and favourite one more appropriate image, perhaps?).
- Now make your Mosaic again – exactly the way you did last time when the gaps showed up, except that this time it will be happily GAP FREE!
