Are you considering moving your blog from Blogger to WordPress? It’s a good idea to get some help from the experts. It’s not as simple as importing all your posts. There may be other issues such as preserving your existing links and traffic by redirecting them individually, importing images successfully (so you don’t have to resize them individually once everything’s moved over like I DID!) and making sure your old blog doesn’t become more popular than your new one.

My friend Kirsty and I used Nitun to help us migrate our blogs. He set things up so that all the old post urls redirected to brand new urls. This mean I didn’t miss out on all the traffic to the links to my old blog on my new domain. He moved those links.

Little Hero Hosting is a local company that comes highly recommended too.

If you move your blog without redirecting your old links, the traffic to those old links stays on your old blog. If you move your blog and you just redirect your old blog url to the new one, people will have to re-search for the link they were after on your new blog, and often they can’t be bothered.

SO:

If you want preserve your old (popular with Google search) links and redirect them to your new blog – migrate your blog and get all the links redirected by someone like Nitun.

If you don’t care about your old search traffic to links on your existing (soon to be old!) blog – you can just import your old blog data to your new WordPress blog. I think it’s good to get help with this though. Precious bloggy information is something you don’t want to lose or bugger up.

Pip is there any way of migrating all your info from Blogger to WordPress without using Nitun? I’m really keen to move to WordPress but can’t afford to use a service like that. At the same time I don’t want to lose all of the links that I’ve worked so hard at on my Blogger blog. Any thoughts would be really appreciated.

To be honest, I wouldn’t risk it… I think there are plugins that CLAIM to redirect all your links etc etc – but I don’t think it’s good to risk it! I get hundreds of hits a day to OLD links on my old bloodspot and they all redirect over to my new blog (Wp.org) seamlessly. I think it’s worth doing properly – but you can get quotes from other companies – Little Hero for example.

Ok thanks for clarifying. I will do that. This may seem like a really stupid question but I’m a total novice with WordPress – can I set up a new blog at WordPress and then move the contents of my Blogger blog across a bit later? I’m keen to get it all set up on WordPress but just not quite ready to move all my content over straight away if that makes sense.
