Hello

Guy Craft 1

March 10, 2008

Max was pretty gob-smacked by the PVC Golden Book wallet I made for Brooke. It’s a bit hard to believe you can make a wallet, apparently. But I can – and Hollie can too – she was in The Age on Saturday talking about making wallets!

He promptly ordered one of my PVC wallets for himself – so we dragged out a few old copies of Giant Robot magazine – and he and Ari each chose a page to convert to a wallet. Ari chose scary-anime-Hellsing and Max chose some cool Japanese characters and this old Evil Design ad.

A bit of trickery and voila! Guy Craft. The boys are stoked with their new custom wallets. One has an elasticky strap to hold the flap down. The other one doesn’t. The PVC sort of sticks together and keeps them closed – so I’m not sure you need to bother with any sort of closure.
I bought the PVC at Spotlight for $12.95/m… it’s the middle weight one. I think I might try the less weighty one next time. Don’t look too closely at the stitching – it’s pretty tricky to get the tension perfect – but I did my best!
I’m pretty pleased they’re not turning up their noses at my girly-craft today. They think I’m the bomb with my Guy Craft prowess!
xx Mikes

perhaps a brown owl sesh on PVC – for crafting placcy wallets and bags of course and not racy red jumpsuits with important bits missing……

Fabulous! Do you have any tips for aspiring PVC sewsters? Is there “special” PVC or do you just get the clear stuff that is on the big rolls with lots of other patterned plastic?

Awesome!! Can I ask, what did you do to stop the plastic sticking and catching on your machine?? I nearly threw my sewing machine out the window the other night trying to sew with plastic material!!!

Cool! I have some movie posters that i’ve been stashing since the hubster worked in cinema with the intentions of using them for some sort of crafting. I was thinking bags and you have renewed my interest although who knows when i’ll get around to fulfilling it 🙂
