:: Good Places To Go: Storm In A Teacup

Yesterday I hung out with Maggie for the day (I’ll tell you more about that very soon!) We trawled the Gertrude Street shops, right near my house looking at ALL OF THE THINGS. If you haven’t been to Melbourne or to Fitzroy, even, you really must. You can literally spend the whole day on Gertrude St and not get bored. (I’ll tell you more about that very soon!)

Amidst all of that non-boringness, we met up with Rin at DeClieu and had a snack. Rin told us about Storm In A Teacup. We were too busy to pop in there yesterday, but this morning Cam and I walked down Gertrude St and around the corner to Smith to see what it was like. (Rin said I would LOVE it!)

I’m really glad we did. The tea was lovely and the menu looked great (although we didn’t have time to eat!) We sipped tea and talked about stuff. It was nice. Sometimes I forget to get out of the house and go and do stuff, so my touristing in my own neighbourhood with Maggie has been a GOOD influence! Sometimes I forget to sip tea and talk about stuff too. It was nice to do that.

SO: Storm In A Teacup. It’s a little tea house at the East Melbourne end of Smith St (where Trippy Taco used to be, I think?) The front part of the store has all kinds of tea and tea vessels and accoutrement for sale, but you can also sit down and have cheese or a baguette or a boozy drink or a charcuterie platter.

It’s little and intimate (which I like) and the girl who looked after us was super sweet. Apparently they supply something like 50 cafes with specialty tea and are opening in other states too, so they know their schizz. Go them!

I like the idea of a whole menu just for tea. I don’t know a huge amount about nice tea and I want to learn more (inspired by Maggie and my date at Vue De Monde. They have a TEA SOMMELIER! His name is Charlie! It’s very amazing and great! I’ll tell you more about that very soon!)

I’m guessing we’ll see more and more tea places popping up about the place. Storm In A Teacup is a cute and delicious pioneering example.
