These two mini totes are our first attempt at embroidery! We took one pattern from Sublime Stitching(the dog!) – and the bird and the girl are from two different Japanese craft books. Oooh we are having fun with our hoop-la-ing!
We traced the motifs from the Japanese books onto baking paper.. and then just traced over that straight onto calico with a craft pen (this one fades in natural light over a couple of days – or you can just wipe it off with water).
It really only takes a little while – maybe half an hour to embroider each bag – then another 15 mins to make the bag up.. and voila! These ones are fully lined – one has a long strap and the other a shorter strap. They are made with a calico panel – and then a lovely heavy florally linen I found at an op-shop in Moe. Really lovely fabric.
The one with the girl is going into Mikes today for some lucky gal to snap up! It reminds me of Kat McLeod’s gorgeous illustrations.. (and I think she should design some embroidery patterns! Go on Kat! How GORGEOUS would they be?!)
xx mikes
