If you buy someone a piece of art for Christmas (or the heck of it), it’s highly likely that it will be hung with pride on their wall and remain there for very, very many years. Not only that, every time they look at it, they are going to think of you and marvel at how thoughtful and exquisitely clever you are.
You have to agree that ‘thoughtful and exquisitely clever’ is a much nicer accolade than ‘able to buy socks and jocks like a champ’. Nothing against socks and jocks. (Some are nice.)
