:: 30 Zippy Days

May 20, 2014

How are you going? How is your health? How is your brain? Are you blooming? Are you bright? Are you full of zip? I am. Not. I have been doing lots of things and have been bit haphazard about looking after myself properly over the last few weeks. Nothing serious, but just a bit sluggish and peaky, ya know? I think I got a bit sick and then I slowed down a bit in the healthy living stakes. That’s pretty counter-intuitive, I think, but I am sure we’ve all done it: ‘I’m feeling ill so… crumpets with peanut butter!’ That kinda thing.

Usually I am really good at exercising and eating well, so I am forgiving myself this mini slip. It happens. It’s more important to give yourself a hug and a second chance than to beat yourself up, I think. Do you think that too? You can’t always be on your own back, trying to be perfect.It gets a bit all-consuming and control-ly and narcissistic. There has to be a balance and you don’t always have to do the right thing.

I think it’s okay to do LITTLE things towards your good-living, blooming goals. You don’t have to go all out – you just need to work towards the good stuff daily and be mindful of what works for you.

I’ve been thinking about what works for me, and when I feel happiest and healthiest (and what might work for you too, if you want to join in!) I’ve been thinking about setting healthy habits and positive routines and the adage about it taking 21 days to form a habit (apparently that’s not true!)

For me doing small and big things towards a big goal every day WORKS. The ubiquitous 30 day challenge is a great motivator for me. I like the visibility, the accountability, the daily nature and doing stuff in a gang.

So I’m starting a 30 day challenge on June 1st. I’m doing small and big things towards good health. I’m calling it 30 Zippy Days. I’m doing things to make my body feel zippy and my brain feel zippy too. Maybe you would like to join in?

Here’s a list of zippy things to do :

Take walks, do yoga, eat soup, study a poem, drink fresh juice, stretch, couch to 5K, read a book about philosophy, watch TED talks, do an eCourse, join a gym, learn pilates, meditate, eat a salad, dance around the lounge room, climb a mountain, do a nature walk, go to a health spa, go swimming, go to the library, volunteer, get a new haircut, hire a piece of workout equipment and USE it, have a facial, read a classic novel, join The Walking Book Club, eat less meat, go to a naturopath, have a long soak, take your vitamins, drink lots of water or green tea, find a buddy to exercise with, walk the dog, have a massage… what else?

Leave extra suggestions in the comments! If you want to!

To join in, just join in! You can post your progress on Instagram or Twitter if you want #30zippydays is the hashtag!

Do you want to be zippy too? Pop June 1st in your diary and we can zip together!

x Pip
