Do you know what? There are SO MANY THINGS on the internet. ALL OF THE THINGS. It’s quite overwhelming, right?
Not only that, everyone is trying to tell you that their things are the best things in the world. (Which makes me think of ‘…gem sweater in the world!’… but I digress!)
All this many-many-thingness might seem like it’s a bad thing(ness). But it’s not. Things have swung so (noisily) far that we’ve kind of come full circle. That’s a good thing. We’ve come back to trusting a handful of people to recommend the kinds of things that we love. We choose these few people by noticing that they a) are a lot like us or b) are just freaking interesting/inspiring or c) are a bit like we want to be. These people are our trusty faves.
When I was thinking about this today, as I read through my favourite blogs, I thought it would be a good thing to talk about. I thought we could hit each other up with our trusty faves and share recommendations about the people who are good recommenders. Just person to person. You guys and me. No schtick. No sales-y talk. Just ‘this person is interesting and talks about good stuff’ kinda like. Sound good?
So here are a few of my trusty faves:

Maggie. Maggie always knows what the hap is in terms of beautiful, interesting, quirky or innovative things I want to know about. She’s trusty to me. I just bought the perfume she wrote about because I want to smell nice like Maggie. Which is weird, but whatever… (Also she side-steps the usual blog/post ideas for MUCH BETTER, much more Maggie ones, which works for me in a big way as a reader!)

Michelle. She doesn’t talk about THINGS a lot, but when she does I know they are good. She talks more about people and places and I love that. Michelle lives near to where I spent a lot of time growing up, so there’s a really strong, nostalgic connection between moi and her blog. That sounds intense, right? Like I’m a bit of a blog stalker? It’s officially permissable to stalk a blog, FYI. Just don’t stalk PEOPLE. Okay? (Michelle is trusty to me!)

Tammy. I love Tammy’s blog Rowdy Kittens because it cuts back on all of the thingy clutter life offers and pares it down to something more meaningful and concentrated. She doesn’t talk products very much, but when she does I know they matter and I want to know more. Also can you imagine living in a tiny house? Wow. That seems so great to me. Tammy = trusty to me.

Without people like this my life would be a sea of confusing pushes and prompts, people telling me what I should know about. I would probably tune out altogether, rather than listen. It’s much less crazy to narrow things down to the trusty faves and filter out the rest. That’s not to say that I don’t keep my eye out for other trustworthy/interesting types, but it does mean that I have my favourite/bests to rely on. Which feels nice.
How about you? Who are your trusty faves on the internet? Who do you listen to, recommendation and ideas wise?
x Pip
