Hello

A Week of Happy… Happy Handmade!

November 10, 2008

Handmade Nation – the book – is available in great bookstores (like The Brunswick Street Bookstore and Brunswick Bound) now!

It’s chock full of profiles about creative American peeps – as Faythe Levine and Cortney Heimerl document a crafty voyage of discovery across the USA.

You’ll love this book. I really liked it a lot. I thought it was nice to hear other people’s thoughts on their creative life, contemporary craft and commercial crafting too.

And I really liked reading about what people thought of their own work. There are interesting quotes which speak of trying to find one’s niche, not belonging and ‘art vs craft’. And of course these unsure quotes are from people who are super talented.

It’s kind of comforting to know that even super-smart people have doubting thoughts sometimes – and that they overcome them, dontcha think?

This book is good. It’s really nicely put together with great typography and photos. So go get it.

The film’s out next year. Here’s a sneak peek at the opening titles – and watch out for the cute gocco snap-shot!

Credits for the film are as follows:

Director: Sam Macon
Art Director: Faythe Levine
Producer: Jonah Mueller
Creative Assistant: Annie Simeone
Original Music: Noisola.com
