Did you know that I have been on Twitter for two years. They call my type the early adopter. I have a go just because it’s new and fun. Sometimes I don’t even think about if it’s a good idea. I just do it. Carrraaaazyyy, no?! But I did make a good decision with Twitter. Twitter is really good. Here is why I like Twitter.
- I can talk to creative people directly, often in a fangirl kind of way
- I can talk to my readers directly, person to person.
- I can get breaking news stories as they happen.
- I can find out what is going to air on my favourite radio stations as it happens
- I can read about what is going on at Museums all over the world.
- Lots of magazines tweet, so I can see what they are up to and the things they are writing about
- A lot of my favourite galleries tweet : so I know what exhibitions are coming up
- I can follow fake people I love : like Gene Hunt
- I can let people know about things I am up to
- I can share great links that might not get much attention otherwise
- I can see the good stuff other people are doing
- I can get the heads up on new sites, technology and other useful computery stuff
- I can compile lists of interesting people I want to get to know
- I can discuss issues that are important to me
- I can find answers to questions with one polite tweet : recently Holly emailed me to ask which magazines supported small local designers : I tweeted her questions with the hashtag #askmikes and got lots of answers for her
- I can talk in my own voice, conversationally : “I am mad. I am. Cross-like”
- I can let people get to know me in a less edited, more authentic way : ‘Do you like fondue? It’s nice and cheesy, no?”
- I can promote causes : like Kiva
- I can rally the troops for various community projects : like The Envelope Project
- I can chat to my family in real time, and spontaneously
Are you on Twitter? Why do you like it? Or do you not? If you are on Twitter : leave your Twitter URL below so we can all check you out and add you to our followers! If you want to!PS : Stop being a resistant fuddy duddy : Twitter is for smart, creative people too! Use it in your own clever way!
