Hello Pip-Life

:: Today

January 28, 2013

Gee. I’ve been doing lots of good things. So many nice things, really, that it’s seemed like a bad idea to interrupt those things by sitting down at the computer and blogging. It’s those last few days before we’re in for the long haul, really. With far-away Easter on the horizon as our next scheduled goof off, it’s no wonder that I’ve been a bit crazy-into-real-life-nice-times.

Today was the second last day of the school holidays. We woke Ari up earlier than usual and went to St Kilda. It seemed like a good idea to pretend to be tourists, walk along the boardwalk and out onto the pier. Wish for penguins. See golden old men in tight cossies. And then wander back, doing all that in reverse.

After we did those things, we went to Readings and bought two of Ari’s English novels for this year. And Little Women for me. And then we came home for lunch.

Then later on I went for a walk into the city by myself and bought the final text-book from Ari’s book list. I also went to that big second-hand book shop on Swanston St (Kill City?) The one down all those stairs with all those rooms.  I bought Helen Garner’s The Children’s Bach and a book about Zelda & F Scott Fitzgerald. And then I walked home with sore feet. (NB : Sandals look nice but are very impractical for walking. Also, I am obsessed with books.)

I’ve been walking a lot lately. I’ve been trying to walk 10kms every day. I start with 3kms in the morning.  Then another big walk. Or if I don’t have time I get on the cross-trainer and make it up to ten like that.  I’ve been managing these 10kms for a few weeks now. It makes me feel really great about myself.  Do you feel great about yourself? Sometimes it’s a struggle, I know.  While I was walking, I thought of a quote I saw on Pinterest.

Don’t let your past define you, blah blah blah…. something about it being ‘just a story’.

I don’t like it. I think your past is YOUR story. It’s really important. You don’t have to hang onto it though. Here’s my quote:

Don’t let your past define you. Let it refine you. Yep.

Put a pin on that.

What have you been doing?  Walking? Pier-ing? Reading? Working?

x Pip
