Hm. I know. Like Tiel, there were no resolutions floating about over here. It’s not that I did not make any. It’s more that I did not speak them out loud. I had such an overwhelming sense that this year was going to be great, that I didn’t feel the need to get all shouty about the things I am wishing for this year. But we are nearly halfway through January now, so I feel like it might be a good idea to put my things out there. Here they are ::
I decided to do some work on my health.
I decided to look toward the future with a big grin.
I decided to make some slow improvements at my place.
I decided to approach things with the knowledge that they would get done, and not to worry.
I decided to read from a fiction book every day.
I decided to remember to make things for my family and myself, too.
A bit more about Number 1…
I decided to do some work on my health
Probably you might not know that I am asthmatic. I have been taking inhaled steroid based medication for 10 years to keep it under control, as well as the trusty Ventolin. I ran out of my puffy-steroids late last year and decided to work with my doctor on some other ways of controlling my asthma (don’t worry, there is a hospital 2 minutes walk from my house!) Basically, even though my asthma got worse, I felt better in every other way without that medicine. It was time for a big change, after all it’s a New Year!
So I headed off to see Dr Sandra to find out how else I could be asthma-free. She advised me to get off all the things that were likely causes of my asthma : dairy, caffeine, gluten, fruit, alcohol and sugar. And to take lots of good supplements and eat lots of other very healthy things. And to take diluted apple cider vinegar before my meals. To have baths with Epsom Salts and to read about the Okinawa way of eating. Phew. How does that sound? OK. I know that sounds bad, but it’s not as bad as ill-health, right? No point getting all pouty about it. PlusI had been feeling a bit crap for a while.
I listened to what she said. I have been doing all the things she told me to do and I feel a zillion times better. (Except the other night when I thought no dairy meant no LACTOSE and I ate a lactose-free yoghurt and got really sick. Like horrible asthma and dizziness and aches and pains and all sorts of other stuff. So there you go. With the steroids I can eat dairy. Without the steroids I can most definitely not!)
So I am turning my back on the dairy… which I never ate much of. And I am eating gluten-free… which I am finding hard. I am off the sugar and the drinkies which is just fine with me. I am off the fruit and fruit juice. And I am eating so many nice vegetables and miso and brown rice and Japanese soups and things like that. I don’t even miss the coffee… I am drinking low caffeine tea with rice milk. Rice milk is nice. Not as thick as soy milk, but still yummy.
I have about 20 Japanese cookbooks. I really like these ones by Harumi. And we have a table-top gas burner and are having fun making table-top soups and hot-pots with the kidlets. YUM, huh?
Anyhoo. I just wanted to report all that, because I don’t often talk about stuff like that… and I though it might be a good idea to loosely track my progress on my No-Wheeze life! I think I needed a bit of a shake-up, to tell you the truth!
How are you? Are you okay? I hope you are! Did you make any resolutions?
Tomorrow I am going to show you some good stuff from Sew La Tea Do. Stuff you have not seen. I think you will like it. I do!
xx Pip
