Ari and I visited the Melbourne Museum on Wednesday.
We love going to the museum and I especially loved the Top Design exhibition. I noted down some of the talented people I loved as we wandered about and trotted off to Google about a bit when I got home. During that clicky expedition I came across photographer Jessie DiBlasi’s great book-to-be. It seems Jessie spoke as part of the events surrounding Top Design (experienced creatives talking to students, for instance… hello Rohan!) and that’s where I found out what she was up to.
What she’s up to is curating and photographing recipes from grandmothers. Here’s what Jessie says:
Nonna to Nana is a project that started out as rowdy conversation around the (extendable) dining table at my Grandmother’s house, that aims to combine my love of food and adorable grandmothers into a documentary style cookbook. Illustrating my passion for storytelling and using interviews and documentary photography, it will capture the traditions, histories and recipes of a fast-disappearing generation of matriarchs. The cookbook will offer an appreciation of the role these women have within our community and of the love and dedication our grandmothers give through the simple joy of sharing food.
Jessie’s looking for more Nannas for her book. Head here to make contact with her if you know a grandma who is a great cook and might like to be part of this great project. (I think the Nanna might need to be in Melbourne, but don’t quote me on that!)
