:: Finders Keepers : What We Thought!

October 10, 2010

Hello!
Wowee. I have been so busy with making things for and spending the weekend at Finders Keepers.  Cam and Rin and I took turns manning the stand.  We had a really great time!  I am totally knackered! Phew!  Did you go along?  What did you think?  I think that it is a really great market.  The mix of makers was so good.  In fact I thought that it was super competitive, in some ways, because the standard of maker was so high.  I think that is a really good thing.  It’s really great if we are all pushing ourselves to make the best stuff we can.  Big thumbs up to Finders Keepers.
If you did not go, Finders Keepers was held in a huge tin shed on the waterfront at Docklands in Melbourne.  There were around 150 makers… and bands… and Beatbox Kitchen… and Frankie Magazine too!  It was a great weekend.  It was QUITE hot in the shed… but we were very lucky to be fanned by a cool sea breeze most of the time, which was fortunate.  I think some people might have been a bit boiling!
We took a big picnic and some wine and snacked all day.  We were right next to Aunty Cookie so we talked a lot about biscuits and balls and the kinds of things she is into. Aunty Cookie had her cutest side-kick with her (not you Kirst… although you are cute..!) and Rin and I were very happy to hang out with Miss Six all day on Sunday.  Kirsty’s kids and Mr Kirsty visited too, which was extremely lovely.  And Angela let me tickle Luka’s toe late in the day.  Thanks Ange. We saw lots of Victoria Mason (not in the undressed kind of way) and Chris from Corky Saint Clair and Mr and Mrs Arthur’s Circus... and did lip balm and coconut ice swaps with the Frankie gals.  Beci and her mum and Lil-Ari dropped in and I got to meet Clara’s Mum too!  And Tiel came! And Sim!  Yes! Oh it was so good!
Big-Ari came along and fished off the pier in front of our stand… and then Emma visited and whisked him away for an afternoon of trampoline and falafel.  Thanks Emma!
We had SO many lovely visitors.  I could not even mention them all.  There were at least 100 people who dropped in and talked blogging and books and craft and twitter too!  Thank you for saying hello, if you did…!  It is so great to meet people face to face… MUCH nicer than online!  I spotted Lucy from afar in a stripey dress taking lots of photos.  Gemma popped in, and I got to meet Polly… and I saw Cindy and Caleb… and I really can not name everyone because it will be ten zillion pages long!  Phew!  Thank you for coming along and keeping us entertained, you guys!
I think that we would really love to do another Finders Keepers… and I think that if you are a maker then you should keep your eyes peeled for the next FK.  It is totally the best market I have been to.  A really great mix of favourite people and new people : some people from interstate and some local : and a really well chosen selection of design led, vintage-style and artisan products.  Really really great.  Bravo Finders Keepers!

AND thank you to The Age M Magazine for featuring our book amongst all the other amazing crafty things in their ‘Seams Like Old Times’ feature yesterday!  (And to The Age for featuring Finders Keepers so heavily.  You guys are rad.)
