Hello

Nice People Who Make Good Stuff – Angela White

June 24, 2008

The first in a semi regular series..

Have you heard of ANGELA WHITE? You might know her as threebuttons, and she’s the mastermind behind that happy-button of a crafty business – Sew Your Own. Yep, she’s the lovely girl who plays favourite aunt to the super cute MISS Buttons! For those of you that haven’t met Miss Buttons – she looks like this. Say hello!

She’s available as a pattern, (or in kit form – complete with fabric and required notions) – from the best niche retailers! And there’s a gallery of Miss Buttons here – where you can view Miss Buttons, as made by stitchers all over the world (but mostly from Australia!)

Angela’s grew up in the sunshine, wiggling her toes on a li-lo and drinking home-made lemonade. She now lives in a tucked away inner suburb of Melbourne, with her lovely partner and their sometimes cat, Audrey. She loves her Mum, and her lovely friends, and she loves cute stuff and op-shopping too. And taking photos. She really loves taking photos.

I met the adorable Angela through Meet Me at Mikes in Richmond – she’d just been featured in The Age ‘I Made It Myself’ column – and was approaching stores like ours about stocking Miss Buttons. It was a case of crafty-love-at-first-sight – as it often is when you meet a like-minded soul, and we hit it off super-goodly! Purely platonic of course, but love all the same.

Angela is a graphic designer by trade which goes a long way to explaining her attention to detail and the care with which she designs her products. She can sew a perfect zipper and has an eye for sweet trims and cute fabrics. A natural raconteur, she makes a really good dinner guest, she’s a gun for secret shops and hidden cafes. I really recommend her as a friend. But back to business…

Following Miss Button’s success, Angela released her ‘I Made It Tote’ kit and just recently, a friend for Miss Buttons – MR ELECTRON! He’s the perfect package of super-hero cute – and heaps of fun for the whole family. Imagine the fun you’ll have teaching him to fly, leap tall buildings and rescue kittens.

Angela’s Sew Your Own kits are stocked in stores nationwide as well as internationally, with all products being produced right here in Melbourne. She’s been featured in all the best publications, including Frankie and The Melbourne Age – and in my humble opinion, is destined for HUGE success!

Smart + Hard working + Niceness = Angela.

I hereby award her the ‘NICE PEOPLE WHO MAKE GOOD STUFF MEDAL!’. She’s the first in a series of friendly profiles of great crafty people. I’m going to ask Angela to write a little summary of her five tips for craft business success later in the week – so tune in for that!
