Ok.. I know this is not really up there in terms of world ranking for ‘Most Fun Game Played in the School Yard in 1978’… but for me it was gold.
I always wanted to be the Jaclyn Smith character when I was in primary school – which was fine as Farrah was the one the other gals wanted to be.
The boys in my class would play ‘Starsky and Hutch’ – which worked in really well with our game.. and we were often found reprimanding clueless younger children in the playground and roping them into our game by taking them back to the ‘clink’ and chucking the key away.
If the boys didn’t want to play, it didn’t really matter, we’d just fake the Charlie voice at the beginning and get on with the show anyway.
It never really occurred to us that you might need to wear some sort of fashionable disco outfit to be a ‘Charlie’s Angel’. We were pretty happy with our school dresses tucked into our knickers.
Sometimes we DID play ‘The Love Boat’ and ‘Little House on the Prairie’, but they never held the same excitement as ‘Charlie’s Angels’.
My boys are playing Star Wars in the playground now… but I wonder about what the girls are playing…. Perhaps a bit of Hannah Montana with their packed lunch?

Oh… Jamie Summers.. YES! And Charlie’s Angels in Space! Awesome! And don’t even get me started on Jessica from Logan’s Run!
Next week, i’m starting ‘a week of who I wanted to be when I was little’!
Jamie Summers! I was The Bionic Woman for my all of 1978…with sound effects even! Eeeeeeeeeerrrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaa
My kids (8 and 11) play Harry Potter, Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
Wonderful – I wanted to be Farrah, Agnetha – ABBA, Marcia – Brady Bunch & Karen Knowles – Young Talent Time. Lucky I was blonde.
You’re not alone there – me and my third grade besties used play a variation on your game called ‘Charlie’s Angels in Space’, which always involved the Angels running around feverishly to defeat the evil ruler of the planet Coosbane. (Don’t ask me how or why this was the premise, it just was.) I was always the Cheryl Ladd Angel (Chris?), Norman (yes, Norman) was always Kelly and Kate got stuck being the less glamorous Sabrina. Aaah, good times.
