(Don’t worry. I have finished my poetry unit! I’m doing short fiction now!)
Here is my final poem – made from an earlier poem I revised. It’s about daydreaming and taking walks in the bushy park near my house during these strange days. And about how nature and creatures can anchor and restore us … especially if we are trying to create a whole new life for ourselves.
I am all about this theme at the moment.
Don’t you find that walks are the very best thing for troubled times?

Second nature
Cool darkness
seeps into
that green-trimmed cloak
shot through
with fins and frog legs
like a trick
they arc rippling goodbyes
and then
they go
Bird brothers
tilt and bow
tuxedoed clique
then shake
damp feathers
into whiskery knives
that cut into
the mirrored
shadow sky
to linger
too long under
far below
peach-pink
tumbles of blooms
marble the light
As dew drops
lace the death caps
prettily
those pearly presents
hide
an artful trap
buds spill
their nectar
sharing sacred truths
sweet leaves
reach out
envelop soothe enwrap
then stitch themselves
into
the life beneath
the velvet moths
the patchwork
butterflies
The precious ones
draw in the
forest breath
their restless
souls
concealed revealed surprised.

i remeber those bird cards! well…i remember having them, but i dont remember where they came from….what were they?
I love this
I will search out where you did a poetry unit as I find listening to people read poems so heart settling. As for being in nature, it is beautiful and always grounding and aids any necessary recovery
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing
Yes a walk is my go to in troubled (or not) times.
Cheers kate
Lovely poem!
Are those bird playing cards or stamps or coasters? I want them!
I love it! I liked the first version, but I like this one even more. Thank you for sharing your work with us!
