Day Fifteen: Track Your Numbers

May 21, 2015

One way to keep yourself motivated and pushing forward with new, fun strategies on social media is to track your progress and follow the ups and downs. Not only does this keep you in tune with what’s going on, but it encourages you to make tweaks so you can improve on the move.

This week, start tracking your follower counts across your platforms. Know that the NUMBERS do not mean everything – post quality and engagement is MUCH more important. Let me say that from the get-go.

Numbers, however, can sometimes tell you when you’re onto a good thing – for instance you might Tweet something great, something that’s retweeted by someone with more follower than you and BAM! You get a bunch of new followers. That’s a good result. (As long as they aren’t all spam followers!)

I’m not a fan of measuring success by looking at how high someone’s follower account is – rather, I’d be looking at how they engage (and if they they spending lots of money on Facebook ads and the like! More on that soon!) Know that this number tracking is part of a WHOLE SOCIAL STRATEGY – not the focus of it. The numbers can help you improve – but they are not WHO YOU ARE.

Here’s a Social Stats Tracker for you to download and print out. Fill it in at the end of each month and track your progress (and make changes/adjustments to your strategy accordingly!)
