So, we’ve talked skills, heroes, goals, strengths, inspirations and more so far in this course. You’ve hopefully got a MUCH better idea of your blog’s focus and your own excellent bits too.
What I want you to do next is to double-check that the best bits of YOU are making it to your blog. Very often we get caught up in the mechanics and routine of blogging and we forget that it’s a fabulous platform to showcase our unique, awesome selves!
Step sideways a bit and think about how you can capture bits of yourself and put those bits onto your blog. How can you translate your cleverness and your own creative style into something that’s a treat for your readers?
Think about the kinds of words you’d use to describe yourself. I might use words about myself like…
nostalgic, playful, joyful, colourful, happy, child-like, pretty, simple, cheeky, fun, accessible, clean, devoted, cute, layered, humorous, kind, pop!
You, on the other hand, may be a total goth and your words may be on the other end of the Spectrum of Cute. Whatever works for YOU!
When you’re working creatively keep these words in mind. You certainly don’t have to be a slave to them, but when you are feeling a bit stale and unexcited by what you are writing or creating, this little check in with yourself can be just the thing to set you on a more authentic, satisfying path.
To do:
Write yourself a list of words that relate to you and your creative style. They will be a higgledy piggledy list of words that might/might not relate to each other. That is okay. Get it down on the page. Go nuts.
When you are stuck or stale – check your list and see if what you are doing is in line with or a progression from your own creative style/self.
