Gingerbread, Handkerchieves and Pear-trees!

Hooray hooray.. today was a day of packing lots of lovely things into cello-bags lined with confetti, birthday candles and cocktail umbrellas. Favourites of the day were 1970s Enid Blyton books, 1960s Little Golden Books, Pocket Mirrors from Lark, remodelled vintage dresses from Anna & Joachim, birdy whistles that you fill up with water and warble-arble, wind-up dinosaurs, handmade resin badges by Julia from Sing and lots of annuals (from Baretta to Debbie 1973!)… such a lovely Mikes Xmassy Day!

Ari and I sang a raucous version of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’.. involving a Barman in a Peartree… and we finally put the Xmas tree up! It is chock full of our vintage decorations from the Salvos.. and not a branch was spared.. it is completely heaving with Christmas-ness!

Molly put up with all the in-house squabbling and made lovely packaging out of a half-ripped up copy of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. She skipped off to dinner at the flour-covered-Lachie’s house which sounded lovely!

We keep meaning to make Gingerbread Men.. but somehow there is no time.. Mikes is open 11-8 from Wednesday night through to Saturday night.. then 10 – 5 on Sunday.. so there is lots of work to do!

Aphra brought in her lovely fabric covered journals.. and souvenir teaspoon brooches.. and lovely pendants too! They are just lovely and familiar and nostalgic!

Sam dropped off some badges made from her own lovely Blythe-esque fabric-printed photos! And also some badge sets made from vintage animal encyclopedias, and felted ladybird badges too!

We found some lovely old Days of the Week Handkerchieves which are far too lovely to blow our noses on… I love the Mouse hugging the stuffed olive one!

Tomorrow we are headed out of town for a spot of pottering about! Can’t wait to see what we turn up! On my list is things for the VINTAGE BEAUTY SWAP! And also stocking fillers, and fresh frocks, and maybe some lovely old tins to put all my stamps and sticky tape and paper clips in! Also on the lookout for some books for the vintage kids swap too! Also we are picking up a box of lovely NODDY books.. and some old Disney comics from the early 80s! Cam is gagging for some fresh vinyl… so fingers crossed we find some! Last time we got some Led Zeppelin and AC DC.. so i am not sure what could be better than that!
