In Australia noooo. In my new home of Indonesia (not famous for their cheese) YES. Its the only cheese that doesnt cost a weeks wages and its available everywhere. Its weird that it doesnt need refrigeration. The locals like it with chocolate in a toasted sandwich.mmmmm
Artsy MartyJuly 7, 2011 at 5:22 PM
not normally – HOWEVER, I think it's similar to Velveta's brick of cheese… Melted in nuker with jar of salsa mixed in… disgustingly good with tortilla chips…and a margarita… oh, but wait…NOT in JULY ๐ – Sorry Pip. It's so bad bad bad bad (oh so good) bad bad bad (but oooh so good) 8)
JoJuly 3, 2011 at 1:17 AM
No way….should it really even be called a cheese. I grew up on it too but don't think my kids have even tried it. Oh yes they have….. plastic cheese stills lives on in my parents house.
AMMJune 29, 2011 at 11:52 AM
Absolutely yes! No matter how grown up I am and how much King Island and other "posh" cheese I eat, I still love to buy a box of plastic cheese and eat huge chunks of it or scald the top of my mouth by having it bubbling hot on (white) toasted bread. Coincidentally, I bought a box on Sunday and have nearly eaten it all.
Annette HillJune 28, 2011 at 4:05 AM
The cheese of my childhood!! I'm sure my parents still eat it now, some 30 years later. Gold!
RachJune 27, 2011 at 12:49 PM
Hells yeah!! Best on crunchy white bread roll with butter and vegimite. Yum – so much salt!
MaddieJune 27, 2011 at 10:22 AM
One of my family's Christmas traditions was to have a jar/bag/can of whatever our favourite food item was. My sisters had olives and champignons and my brother had asparagus. I, on the other hand, had KRAFT CHEDDAR!!! I would gnaw on my Christmas Cheese all day long like a chocolate bar and was the happiest gal in the world. Of course now that I'm older, all I see is a block of lard so would never do it again but ah the memories…
hypnosis benefitsJune 27, 2011 at 1:07 AM
I like cheddar cheese on my pasta. Yum!
JoyJune 26, 2011 at 7:29 AM
No, not at all. Did eat it as a child, but can't stand the stuff any more. I bought the cheese sticks for my kids and they rejected them. Its tasty aged cheese all the way.
KarenaJune 26, 2011 at 2:17 AM
I used to love it as a kid, but I have to say, the answer is a resounding NO nowadays.
I'm suspicious of any dairy that doesn't need refrigeration for a start – it's full of preservatives. I'm also not sure if it's vegetarian – does it contain rennet?
I don't eat cheese very often, so when I do, I like to eat really good cheese, natural, preferably organic, & containing non-animal rennet.
I'd say Kraft cheddar is the antithesis of all I hold dear in regards to cheese!
michelleJune 25, 2011 at 8:57 PM
Wow, that brought back some memories! I didn't know they still made that stuff. I used to like it when I was little, but not that horrid parmesan in a can. That was nasty!
KateJune 25, 2011 at 8:02 AM
Yes, yes, yes! I haven't had it in years, reminds me of visiting my grandma in the outback during the summer.
KateJune 25, 2011 at 5:52 AM
I still remember how the foil felt on my fillings…

Frugal Down UnderJune 24, 2011 at 11:46 PM

PipJune 24, 2011 at 11:39 PM

Yes grated and mixed with grated carrot, introduced to me by my husbands family
AnonymousJune 24, 2011 at 10:21 PM
Yes,(but not often) This cheese holds a special place in my heart. As a child of the fifties, Kraft cheese was a treat. We always had cheese cut by the grocer from a huge block.

endless_murmurJune 24, 2011 at 9:45 AM
Yum! Yes! Especially with honey. On crumpets.
Taylor MadeJune 24, 2011 at 9:44 AM
Yes when I was a child…melted plastic cheese was the best…wouldn't buy it now as an adult though…wonder if I am depriving my kids?

Yes, Yummy in a Sandwich with tomato ๐
MeAndBooJune 24, 2011 at 8:09 AM
Ummm, yes! But not for yeeeears – infact I haven't even seen it in the stores for so long I had forgotten about it! I know it's a processed nightmare, bit it was rather yum. It should be called cheese flavoured product or something, rather than actual cheese!!!
BiancaJune 24, 2011 at 6:48 AM
I love cheese but not this one though. I like cracker barrel… my appetite for this started when I lived in the UK.
BridgetJune 24, 2011 at 5:45 AM
Yes! Yes! Yes! Used to have it at my grandmother's wooden table grated over pasta and butter. Mmmm. Nostalgia food.
EliseJune 24, 2011 at 5:41 AM
Definitely! Its the best cheese to take camping or traveling! 2 blocks made the 2 week trip around Tasmania with me, i would have been lost without it! Delish!
Lee@mummyissuespart2June 24, 2011 at 4:57 AM
No, but now I need some. Yummmmm
BluquiltJune 24, 2011 at 4:52 AM
Yes! ๐
ejorpinJune 24, 2011 at 3:40 AM
A huge YES! As much as I love your aged cheddar and gooey brie, the Kraft cheddar will always have a place in my heart and my pantry (this cheese is so tough it don't need the fridge!).
Reminds me of weekends at my Dad's place as a kid with chunks of this on salty Saladas. And more recently of fun times with my working-class-made-good husband who thinks putting any other cheese in your tacos is a travesty!
DoloresJune 24, 2011 at 3:22 AM
Coincidentally, my husband and I were talking about Kraft "Blue" cheese a couple of weeks ago. We both grew up eating it and we were wondering whether it was still around. Also remember when parmesan was that powdery stuff in the shaker? I'm so glad we have progressed!!

I didnt even know they still made it! Now nostalgic for welsh rarebit. When we were little and mum did night school (as well as work fulltime) my sister made us her favorite called "southland tuna" as she got recipe off the greenseas tin and was shown how to make it at Southland shopping centre – 2 tins of tuna, 2 tins of vegetable soup, maybe some curry powder, warm and serve with rice. She was about 10 or 12 and used to make it to feed the 6 of us. we wont judge you either.
TaraJune 24, 2011 at 3:10 AM
Yes! Growing up 'box cheese' was the ultimate luxury. It was one of the first things to be eaten out of the Chrisco every year at Christmas!
katiecrackernutsJune 24, 2011 at 2:39 AM
What is that?
daisyJune 24, 2011 at 2:23 AM

Sarah BJune 24, 2011 at 1:20 AM
Yeah, despite loving all sorts of cheese immensely ( I even get teased about it) I don't mind a bit of plastic cheese every so often. I know, it's a bit sad ๐
JennyJune 24, 2011 at 12:54 AM
I wonder if this is the same as " Velveeta"? I haven't had it in awhile but it is oh so good! Makes the best nacho cheese ๐
JasmineJune 24, 2011 at 12:53 AM
After 15 and a half years of being vegan, it's one of the few things I still miss! Especiay Kraft mac and cheese. I dream about it sometimes! haha
EmilyKateJune 24, 2011 at 12:52 AM
I'm with those who say it has to be grilled or in a toasted cheese sandwich, otherwise it's too sickly and the texture is just too rubbery. It's one of those things that very good for what it's good for!
librarygirlJune 24, 2011 at 12:49 AM
No. I actually didn't know you could still buy it! It was the cheese(?) of my childhood, though.

ShannonJune 24, 2011 at 12:27 AM
This was the cheese we had when I was growing up (that and Kraft singles). A family favourite was to have it was grilled on crumpets with vegemite. When you grill it, it turns brown on top and is all gooey underneath. Oh so wrong, but so right.
LauraJune 24, 2011 at 12:12 AM
Cannot do it. Belongs in the past along with EZCheez. Wait, is that still available?!
girl holding a paintbrushJune 24, 2011 at 12:10 AM
I only eat this when I'm making grilled cheese as it works perfect for it.
Just have to say I saw this post and just started laughing ๐

Nope.
We do eat the plastic wrapped singles though, and cheese sticks occasionally are yummy…
Sandra FJune 24, 2011 at 12:00 AM
No. But now you've reminded me of it, I'm fairly sure my Nan used to eat it on toast with vegemite. So I am going to put it on my shopping list and 'revisit' this taste sensation.
MelodyJune 23, 2011 at 11:58 PM
I ate it as a child, but can't stomach it now. My partner and son love it, though: they grate piles of it over noodles for a quick snack.
ClaireJune 23, 2011 at 11:45 PM
No, no, no!!! Nor the plastic wraped singles either. Or cheese sticks… Though now I mention it … I could probably enjoy a cheese stick right now (but that might be pregnancy talking!)
