Under advisement from our friends on Facebook we did a bit of op-shopping in Colac, but it wasn’t very fruitful. Thrifting can be like that, can’t it? One person’s treasure trove is another’s void. Or something. No matter, though. I must tell you that I did see HEAPS of vintage sheets at the Colac Salvation Army, but I was not looking for vintage sheets, so I left them there. We bought some 70s ceramics and some mittens and a few other bits and pieces. We had some lunch. I had the soggiest pink lamington I ever met. Not nice. Then we drove around. We looked at the lake and watched a magpie catch a mouse and a blue-tongue lizard slither under some rocks. We drove a bit more. I crocheted the scarf I am making. Ari slept. And then we drove back to Winchelsea and went to the Ladies Auxiliary Op-Shop (next to the Scout Hall). It was big and cluttered and messy (in a very good way!) THOSE are the kind of op shops I like. I DO NOT LIKE the neat ones. I like the cluttery ones with boxes of things and everything jammed in. I DO NOT LIKE the ones that are super clean and organised and sparse. Nope. I do not. We were all very excited after a bit of a rummage at Winchelsea. I think you should go there if you are in the area. But Cam told me not to blog about it. So you KNOW it must be good, right?! Don’t tell him I told you to go to the Ladies Auxiliary Op-Shop in Winchelsea. Okay? They had Plum Jam and Zucchini Relish and Mustard Pickles too…

I’ve been reading through your blog for a few months now, making my way back and back (and by this far back in the blog, a lot of posts have dud links and blank photos, but I enjoy your posts so much that I keep reading!) and I’ve been too nervous to comment, but I saw this one and had to reply, because it’s always so shocking and exciting to see my hometown in a post!! I started reading your blog because I was so excited to find someone from melbourne who was posting about things I enjoy – its so exciting to see familiar names and places pop up – and so seeing you visited my hometown is even more exciting. I do agree with you that the op-shops aren’t great though. There’s some better shops around the outskirts – pombo mart, and some in gellibrand and forrest and birregurra – but the main op-shops in colac aren’t the best! I’ve never been to the winch one – I wonder if its still as good this many years later?
If you had of ventured west by 30km past Colac along the Princes Hwy, then you would have met the Pombo Mart. It is a great place full of antiques and lovely things! Keep travelling west for another 15Km (you pass my house!) but you also get to visit Camperdown (Vic). A lovely little town! It has 3 beaut Op Shops + a super cool Mega Mart. THe Mega Mart has wonderful second hand furniture and things, stacks of new stuff, and lovely plants… Camperdown also has a great bakery and delightful dairy farms!
I learnt from her video clips last year one late night… and now I get sore fingers from doing too much crochet 🙂
