:: 25 Extra Good Dinner Time Recipes

June 5, 2010

Okay. So today Cam went to the market and shopped for the whole week sans me. He did that last week too. I am not up for the freezingness of the early morning market at the moment, so he’s been in charge of food and has been cooking every single night (except for when we had Chinese the other night). I am lucky that Cam does love to cook, because he really does not make a big deal out of times like now, when I am poorly and wimpy and would rather NOT. Phew. Can’t imagine if you had a partner that did not cook. It would be tough.

Anyhoo, so tonight Cam had planned Lentil and Pumpkin Curry. That totally sounded really good, except that Ari is going through a not eating so much phase. He needs to be enticed. Lentil and Pumpkin, enticing as they are, would not entice him. So. I spent the day trying to think of something else to cook, with the one provision being that I did not have to go and get further provisions. Do you know where I got? I got nowhere. I couldn’t think of anything, partly because I was trying to finish my embroidery, partly because I was watching the Diff’rent Strokes marathon and partly because I was gazing at the rainy day outside. The other part of the partly was that I did not really have a list of good go-tos for a quick, comforting, kid friendly and delicious dinner.

So here is a list of things you could cook for a family or a group of friends on a Wintery day. Not too much fuss, not too many ingredients (apart from the staples you might usually have), not too many pots and plenty of delicious punch. Some are fancyish and some are not. Just in case you have an Ari at your house too.

PPS : We ended up throwing lots of vegetables and some stewing beef into the pressure cooker and dinner was done in 20 minutes. Which is, in fact, way less time than it took to write the post about not knowing what to cook for dinner. Go figure!
