Do you know Sass Cocker of Ask Alice? Well, if you don’t you really should! Sass is pretty brilliant, if you Ask Me. Yep. I met her through her equally brilliant sister, Amy Cocker. Amy used to manage our Richmond shop back in the day and now runs her own store, Grey Street in Barcelona, as well as running rings around most of us. Well… except Sass. They are equal pegging in the awesome, ring-running department.
Miss Sass makes a calendar every year to benefit a charity. This year (Year THREE!) all funds raised go to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
The ASRC supports asylum seekers, providing basics such as food, clothing and furnishings. They also provide counselling and legal advice. The ASRC actually really need our support because asylum seekers are not eligible to work until their refugee status is confirmed and they are granted a visa. Asylum seekers receive meagre (or zero) benefits. Many have no income at all. Often they can’t buy food, medicine or basic needs like public transport tickets to get them where they need to go. They are shamefully uncared for. Which is where the ASRC comes in. They help and care. Thank goodness.
Thank goodness for Sass too. Her calendar bestows 100% of the profits raised to the ASRC. So that’s a really good reason to snap one (or a few) up. They are $25.
Artworks include Cape Town by Studio Muti, Sydney by James Gulliver Hancock, Barcelona by Lydia Nichols, Delhi by Owen Gatley, Amsterdam by Lotta Nieminen, Montevideo by Martin Azambuja, Brighton by Ryan Gillett, Mykonos by Matt Chase, Copenhagen by Michelle Carlslund, Helsinki by Blanca Gómez, New York by Nicholas Girling and Tokyo by Masako Kubo.
Go here to buy your Ask Alice calendar and be proud that you a) bought a really rad gift and b) did something to help the asylum seeker community and those who support them.
Good one Sass!
