:: Day Trip To Nannaland

October 20, 2013

I hadn’t seen my Nanna for just over a year, until yesterday. I was thinking about this on Friday. I was thinking about how she said ‘Don’t forget to send me the pattern for that blanket you made me!’ And I decided to just book a day trip to Hobart to see her and my Mum and brother. I’m feeling a bit tense about all the things I’ve got happening at the moment and it seemed like a great idea to a) do something spontaneous b) return to my hometown c) get out of my routine for the day and d) see my family!

I whizzed down on the 8.30 flight and back on the 4.45.  It was long enough to a) go to the market b) have coffee c) go out for lunch d) do a tiny bit of shopping and e) visit my Nan. She was QUITE surprised when she finally answered the door and we had a lovely long chat (and I gave her the pattern!)

I love her little flat. It’s a shrine to the people she loves and the things she’s been given over her 92 years. Every surface is covered with something pretty or flowery or nostalgic or cute. It’s really the best. There are photos everywhere. When we arrived, she was listening to the radio (which seemed to be playing some kind of Saturday afternoon Greek hour) and knitting a jumper for my niece. Naw.

When was the last time you saw your Nanna? Or perhaps your Nanna is no longer with us? That’s so freaking not good, right? What’s your Nanna’s name?  My Nan’s name is Lorna… Tell me about your Nanna/s?
