ari and rin

Last night we had a little birthday dinner for Rin, my extra good daughter. She turned 22. Which makes me the mother of a 22 year old. Which is totally amazing and weird and great!

Here’s what we ate :

Couscous and roasted pumpkin with lemon and garlic and herbs from the garden
Ratatouille with cherry tomatoes and baby zucchini
Potatoes roasted with brown sugar and sea salt
Broccoli and Edamame beans with chilli and garlic
Veal Schnitzel for the meat lovers
Lamingtons
Passionfruit Cake

We listened to the Wooden Shjips and some of Max’s fave tracks and we sipped lemonade and white wine.

We gave Ms Rin a turntable and amp and speakers and some embroidered pillowcases.  One had a fox embroidered on it and one had a sad raccoon on it.  She DID like her presents!

This photo is Rin in Sydney, for my sister Sara’s wedding.  It was MUCH warmer then, as Melbourne has taken it’s stormy opportunity to plunge headfirst into Autumn. Lovely. I love Autumn.  I know that cosy dinners and fireside telly watching are not far away.  And my finished granny blanket is getting closer too, as each month zooms by.

It’s Cam’s birthday on Monday and then mine next Saturday. And then it’s Gemma’s after that, and then Max’s.  Phew.  Such a festive time, which usually coincides with a distinct lack of funds!

Yesterday we planned next week’s shoot.  We are shooting all the images for the new book.  So very exciting. I can not wait.  Anita came to work with me and it was so nice to have someone to chat to while we sewed and computered and had a meeting.  I did not realise how isolated it is in that little back room at Mikes.  I mean, it’s nice and all, but it’s not a patch on having someone to chat to.  So that was an ace discovery.  I think I will ply her with leftovers and cinnamon scrolls and invite her to work more often!

Today I have to buy some fabric and make a couple of garments, and finish some embroidery.  And drink chai.  And eat leftovers and cinnamon scrolls.

And how are you, anyways? Are you well?  How’s it going with your family and friends?
