These take about 10 minutes to make! And look how funny they are!! A good project for beginners!
You will need :
Yarn : white and red are good – or green – one skein of each is fine – regular old 8ply or 4ply or whatever you can find or like! Scraps are fine!
Crochet Hook : I used a 3.5mm hook – you can use up to a 5mm hook, I think!
Chenille Needle : or other big, fat needle to sew in ends and stitch up seams
Scissors
Stuffing or tissues or something like that if you are making the Snowman Decoration
Some nice music and a mug of eggnog would be helpful too!

Snowman Finger Puppet
- Chain stitch 17
- Skip the first two stitches and then half treble one stitch into each remaining chain stitch
- At the end of the row chain up 2
- Then Half Treble once into each chain stitch of previous row.
- Continue on like this chaining up two and half-trebling along until you have 8 rows of stitches.
- Fasten off and fold your crocheted rectangle in half. Good work! Sew up the top and side seams with a big needle and matching yarn.
- Turn right way out and add his extra features: Use yarn to stitch eyes and other features – or you could use felt or buttons or embroidery floss. (You can also to this in the centre of your crocheted rectangle, checking the placement is correct, before you stitch him up!)
- Make a scarf by chain stitching 25 stitches and fastening off. Trim the ends. Tie the little scarf tightly around Snowman’s neck to create his cute shape.Pop him on your finger! Sing him a Christmas song!
- Play around with different sizes and variations! Add a nose, mouth or hat if you like!

Variation :: Make A Snowman Decoration
When you’ve crocheted your last row, don’t fasten off yet!
Chain 30 and then slipstitch back into one of the lower chains to form a loop.
Tuck this loop inside the snowman body before you stitch him up.
Stitch along the top and side with a needle and matching yarn, as for the finger puppet above.
Turn him out and sew on eyes. Stuff his head before tying on a little scarf!
Hang him on your tree! Hurrah!
