John Hughes showed a generation of teenage kids that red hair and freckles is awesome. And that it didn’t matter where you fitted in, as long as you knew that being your own flawed self was okay. And that things weren’t as shiny as Happy Days and Leave It To Beaver. Thank you Mr Hughes for flying the flag for often nerdy, funny, awkward, fragile kids – right when I was trying to navigate those tricky teenage years. I owe you a lot. RIP. You were ace.
