Staying In Watching Telly…

July 7, 2009

Last night was a bit of a couched up TV extravaganza here. Australia’s Next Top Model crowned Tahnee their queen (although I thought Bambi-Cassi was so gorgeous too, perhaps just a little fragile though?) followed MUCH later in the evening by The Michael Jackson Memorial at 3am. I had strict instructions to wake Ari at three, so I dutifully set the alarm and crept in to try and raise him. Of course, raise he did not, so I went back to sleep too and we watched the tail end from 7am onwards. Definitely one of those memorable moments that we’ll look back on and say ‘Where were you when….’, I think.

MJ was the soundtrack to my early teenage years. My friend Yvonne and I played ‘Thriller’ over and over at our sleepovers (amongst other 80s gems, of course) – we even had the video on VHS. Before that, in the late seventies, my family had a big catastrophe of a house with a rumpus room and A STAGE. MJs early records and The Jackson Five (along with The Sylvers and The Silver Convention) featured in many performances on that rumpus-room stage, I can tell you.

My favourite MJ tracks :: Human Nature, Smooth Criminal, I’ll Be There, Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough, Wanna Be Starting Something and Beat It.

Michael Jackson : talented, fragile nutter – may you Rest in Peace
