Well the delectable Shannon was featured in ‘I Made it Myself’ yesterday – my favourite column about handmade things in ‘The Age’. Deservedly so, as Aunty Cookie puts her own spin on all that she does… and she doesn’t sugar coat it! Yet it’s still sweeeeeeet. Go Shannon.
I made some things.. little Babushka dolls from vintage fabric and felt.. and they have lovely eyelashes. They are based on a pattern I found in a 70s softie book – but i made them a bit piece-ier, added the felt faces, removed arms (ouch!) and they turned out quite nice. I saw the eyelashes on a doll in a different 70s craft book about rag dolls.. thus it all came together.
I made this dress from a cute pattern i got from Savers. It’s made from a Holly Hobbie pillowcase and some vintage cotton. It’s really cute! Not as nice as the ones Dana and Kerri make.. but still nice…! Yay me!
Tonight is Stitching Night at Mikes! We start at about 7pm – the cupcakes are ready, the champagne is on the way – I have to clean up a bit – esp the bathroom which has suffered a week of hair-dying, and boy scrubbing – must give it a de-tox!
Flowers to buy, cordial to make, stitching guides to stitch up… it will be lovely! I’m still feeling a little fuzzy round the edges from niece Ali’s 21st last night.. but no matter.. on with the show! I’ve downloaded some cool stitching tracks too… think ‘Don’t be Crewel’, ‘Sew Young’, ‘We Can Make it if We Try’, ‘Material Girl’.. the list goes on!
If you’d like to come to stitching night – we still have some places left for the 30th August date!
xxx and Happy Sunday!

Pip, that dress is SOOO lovely and the dolls are just adorable. Wonderful handiwork!
As promised my favourite Japanese eBay site. I have bought a number of books from this seller and she always sends an extra little key ring from Japan.

The babushka dolls are great. I am so envious of your stitching nights. I would come if I lived back in Melb.Maybe they will still be going when I get home. I have a question to ask. Would you sent vintage packs of fabrics to New Caledonia. There is just nothing like that here and I am having envy attacks everytime I look at your site and all the stuff I can’t get here. Have a good stitch it night.
