:: Words & Pictures : A Meme

March 1, 2012

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you might remember a meme I used to run called Words & Pictures. The idea of this meme was to give people an opportunity to write something nostalgic or fictional or off-topic.  And if you didn’t feel like writing, you could just post an image.  We usually had a theme. And lots of people joined in each week. Words & Pictures was good because you could just cut loose and write something that might usually seem out of place on your blog. It sort of gave participants the chance to cut loose a bit and show a different side of themselves, without seeming like a git.  I guess there is safety in numbers! And if everyone’s cutting loose, then you feel a bit less self conscious.  If you are the self conscious type! Maybe you are totally comfy with cutting loose! Good for YOU!
SO. After much prompting from this lady, I thought we might bring it back!  Let’s play Words and Pictures again.
We’ll start from today. And then you have a whole week to join in!  Once you’ve posted your Words & Pictures post, you can add your link below so that we might all pop in and savour what your wrote/photographed.  How does that sound?
Old Skool blogging was all about this kinda stuff. Let’s come over a bit Old Skool!
Words & Pictures : Week One
Theme : High School
What To Do :
Write a story/article/poem/song about High School OR take a photo that represents the theme High School to you.
Post it on your blog or Facebook (you could add it as a Facebook Note.) Link back to this post if you would like to provide a bit of context and encourage others to join in.
If you want to share your piece, add your link below so we can all take a peek.
Come back to this post and click the links people leave, so you can read/see their take on the theme!
Come back next Thursday to see a new theme and join in if you would like to!

Here are the original guidelines from the OLD Words & Pictures : they are still totally applicable.

Things you need to know :
You don’t have to write beautifully or perfectly.
You don’t have to write a lot.
Also, you don’t need to be an amazing photographer.
But rather, just post something about the theme. Words or pictures. Or both. Just have a go. Simple.
Perhaps you might post some distant memories, or a story you made up, or an old photo, maybe tell us something you once read about the theme, write in rhyme, detail a snatch of overheard conversation, you might recount an anecdote… it could be anything really.
Just some words. Or some pictures. Or both.
Like I said, nothing fancy.
Just do it your way.
Just for fun.

So what do you say? Would you like to play Words & Pictures?  Leave a comment if you plan to play! And leave your link in the Linky Link when you have posted yours!  Here is mine for this week. I’ll write a FRESH one next week!

Wooh! Let's go!!

xx Pip

My highschool words and pictures kept me up all night last night.
Shouting at me and flashing in front of my eyes.
I hope to get a chance to get some of it out and onto the computer over the weekend.
I've forgotten how you pronounce meme though.
Happy, happy weekend lovely Pip. xx

This is a great idea! I was thinking the other day about how to write about off-beat things on my blog, so thanks Pip. I'll do some brainstorming and hopefully write something soon.
